My thoughts:
I think it is sad knowing that the ocean could be taken over by trash and polluting animals habitats by 2050. The quote from the article says how trash will outweigh the fish in the ocean in 2050. That is only 30 years away, and we should be doing something about the trash in the ocean and making people more aware about how big of a problem this actually is. The article also says how the fossil fuel industry plans to increase plastic when we should really be getting rid of plastic. I think the fossil fuel industry is being selfish and should think about how plastic effects our environment and not only their company.

My thoughts:
In this article it discusses a lot of ways to reduce the trash in the ocean. They brought up turning the plastic into yarn, then into clothes. Personally, I would buy clothes that I know helped decrease the amount of plastic in the ocean. It sounds like a good idea, but it is impossible to clean up the micro sized pieces of plastic in the ocean. I think every state should have a law for recycling. If we were to recycle every piece of trash, the amount of trash in the ocean would be decreased abundantly. The problem with trying to rid the ocean from trash, is that people do not recycle causing more trash to end up in the ocean. So its like a vicious cycle where the trash in the ocean never ends no matter how quickly you try to clean it up. My idea for cleaning the ocean up, is to provide more jobs. There are a lot of unemployed people in the world, and providing them jobs that do good for our earth by cleaning the trash out of the ocean would be a good thing for our country. I also think we should use the plastic from the ocean to create roads. It is proven that roads built from plastic are much more durable that asphalt roads. This would also be solving the pothole crisis as well.

My thoughts:
I like how this article describes the plastic ending up in the ocean is like posting something onto the internet. Since the plastic breaks down into tiny microfiber pieces, it is impossible to clean out of the ocean. Just like trying to get something off the web, it will always be there and is impossible to get rid of. It is also hard to hear that 80% of the trash in the ocean, comes from land. We could be preventing this by recycling and creating more jobs to clean up our ocean but instead nothing is done about it and the issue continues to progress.

My thoughts:
I didn't know that Asia dumps their trash in the rivers or lakes or oceans near by. I assumed most countries can realize how plastic and trash in the ocean is a problem and we all are trying to do a little bit to prevent our ocean from being taken over by trash. Now it worries me knowing that some countries may not realize this is as big of a problem as it actually is and are careless about it. It is also concerning to think that the fish we are eating have plastic in them that can be transferred to us. Not so much the plastic is the problem, it is the toxins that are in the chemicals put into plastic that can also be more harmful if they transfer over to us. I think in ways plastic has helped us with things, but it has also become a huge problem. Celluloid made from plants is a product to use instead of plastic. I think we should stop producing plastic and start using products made from things similar to plastic such as the celluloid that wouldn't be harmful to the environment. I have seen things been made from bamboo which is another way to eliminate our production of plastic.

My thoughts:
I think that India is making very smart choices dealing with the ocean trash crisis. I think America should also create more jobs as fishermen to be trained, then go out in the ocean to collect the trash. They would then send it to a factory to shred the plastic turning it into road material, which would create more jobs. Then the road workers who are trained to create asphalt roads, could work to create the roads out of plastic. I always wondered if the roads made of plastic would melt, but it turns out that is why India uses plastic roads because they do not melt. It is also a good idea to use plastic to build roads because it is more durable, so we wouldn't have to keep fixing potholes, and it 8% cheaper than the normal asphalt roads.

My thoughts:
Knowing that the ocean does so much good for us like, providing food, oxygen, jobs, and regulating the climate, it is awful knowing how we treat it by dumping in trash. To decrease the amount of plastic ending up in the ocean, I think the plastic industry needs to go out of business. Stopping the production of plastic overall and creating non-degradeable plastics. Since its a vicious cycle of plastic flowing in, it is hard to clean up the ocean, so stopping the production of plastic would be good. I like the idea of making recycled plastic products cheaper than fossil plastic but in my opinion that plastic will most likely still end up in the ocean because not a lot of people recycle. so ultimately that Is. not a logical way to stop the plastic from ending up in the trash. I still think the best way to reduce the trash in the ocean is how India is doing it by creating roads, and also stopping the plastic production.

My thoughts:
It is a good idea to use plastic in roads because, they are more durable, they cost less, and not only would we be helping the ocean by taking out trash, but we would also be eliminating the pothole crisis since plastic roads are more durable. I think every country should transfer over to making their roads out of plastic because it is a good way to use up the plastic in the ocean.

My thoughts:
I think the device will probably help curb the waste epidemic in the ocean because it stated how it thinks the fleet can clean up about 50% of the ocean trash in 5 years, which would be great but the problem of that is that new plastic and trash gets into the ocean. I also worry over animals getting caught in the fleet. It says how the animals can swim under the fleet and it is supposed to prevent them from getting caught in it, but some animals may not be as smart as others and get caught in it and can't get out. There are pros and cons to this idea, but overall I think its a good idea.

My thoughts:
How do oil spills happen? How can we prevent them from happening? If we can find other ways to make products besides using plastic, is their another way to substitute oil that isn't harmful for the environment? Knowing that there are other things contributing towards the ocean being polluted almost makes me stressed. Focusing on the trash in the ocean for so long, now realizing their are so many other problems that are causing the animals to die and our oceans polluted is very sad.
