Alecia Beth Moore was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Judith Moore (born Judith Kugel), a nurse, and Jim Moore, a Vietnam veteran. Her father is Catholic and her mother is Jewish,10 and her ancestors emigrated from Ireland. , Germany, and Lithuania. In 1995, at sixteen, he joined the R&B board in Atlanta, based on the trio named "Choice," which included Chrissy Conway, Christian girl group ZOEgirl, and Sharon Flanagan. A copy of their first song, "Key to My Heart," was sent to LaFace Records in Atlanta, Georgia, where it was heard in L.A. Reid and organized the group to fly there so he could see them perform. After this, he signed a recording contract for them, because the girls were under the age of 18, their parents had to jointly sign the contract.
