Key Learning Point

Even though I was only able to attend 20 minutes of the first part of the lesson, I was able to catch a few nuggets of learning: (i) using a bonus point system as a way to encourage questioning in the students & (ii) using a very interesting hook (a LOVE meter) to pique students' interest and set the tone for learning! Thank you for sharing your lesson! :)

Students were highly engaged during the group work and some even readily raised hands to share their answers. They were also excited to get the bonus points. Students also excitedly did the quiz (which was short and sweet) and were excited to see their answers correct.

Love the use of the board! Always impressed by how fluid it is, especially with writing notes on the slides while teaching. Attempt was made to engage them with a "love meter", which also got us teachers intrigued. It was then used to transition and teach students how to read resistance values. Then students applied their learning in groups and individually (resistor values test).

Students were positive to participating the group discussion, and used the PLD to scan the QR code and submitted their readings. Students also have opportunities to ask question and explained their understanding. Teacher to demo and explain the basic rules to read the resistor's value, and provided the practical for students. Students' practices showed that some of them have understood the knowledge, and some of them still not clear how to use the table to read the values.

Key Learning Point:

Thoroughly engaging lesson on wants and needs! Learning objectives reinforced through multiple interesting activities. Good link between the fantastical (wants vs needs during a zombie apocalypse) and reality (wants vs needs during circuit breaker--link to authentic experiences). Students enjoyed themselves and were enthusiastic about sharing their ideas with their group and the class.

Key Learning Point(s)

I thought it was great how Mr Luqman made many links from students' personal lives to concepts that are global and therefore less relatable. For instance, he made links between making friends in a group and countries coming together for greater negotiating power; from the different likes and dislikes in class to the different needs and priorities of different countries in ASEAN.

Evidently, Mr Luqman has developed a positive and respectful classroom culture which creates a safe space for discussion. Students managed to take different perspectives and listened well to each other.

Also it was fantastic how he modified the lesson package to suit the needs of the class. I learnt a lot. Thank you! :)

I liked the skillful way in which Luqman took the time to break down the phrase "Unity in Diversity" for the students - by first asking them what they understood from the word diversity and linking it back to how each of them in the class are different from one another (diversity in the class) and linking it back to the global stage.

His instructions to the students were also clear for the OLAY task and he was very intentional in reminding them of the acronym, i.e. L (listen with an open mind) and A (analyse and evaluate) when he was conducting the class discussion. During the discussion, he asked good questions gleaned from students' responses and similar to how he conducted the discussion for "Unity in Diversity", he flips the perspective from the character in the scenario to how the student (individual level) feels and finally to what the class (community/global level) can do in such a scenario.

Key learning point

Really appreciated the activity where students construct a physical model of the lung. Clear instructions given to the students about what to modify on the work book (regarding apparatus and steps), good use of redirection (“are you on the correct page?”), checked for understanding of instructions, ("what do you do for step 1?").

Thought it was great that students work independently to construct the model, which gives them a sense of ownership over their own work. Students were engaged and discussed with each other regarding the correct steps etc.

I think the students enjoyed learning :)

The lesson was well planned with appropriate AfLs and it was clear that the students were learning and meaningfully engaged. There was clear applications of the STP such as using a video and questions to activate prior knowledge, matching the human respiratory system model to a human respiratory system diagram to deepen learning, the use of whiteboard.fi was useful to check for understanding and providing feedback to the class and cahoot to conclude the lesson. Perhaps can ask students to demonstrate choking with the model to further test them on their understanding. I learnt how to adapt this lesson for next year when I am teaching this topic. Thanks for the great lesson Mr Ali!:D

The high engagement from students right from the start tells alot more about the work thats being put in with each students before the open classroom. I particularly enjoyed the techniques used to alert Syed and his friend that they werent paying attention. It wasnt fierce but it was firm and relentless...in the sense that you have gotten them to repeat the steps in making the model all the way from the start to end.

I learnt about the use of Whiteboard.fi and will definitely try it with my DT students! I think it will be very useful, especially for designing as it allow students to also draw/sketch as examples.

The lesson design is very clear, with an appropriate teaching pace that allows all students to engage. The utilization of ICT tools enhances the implementation of AFL, enabling timely assessment of student progress, which is convenient and efficient. However, towards the end, there wasn't enough time to cover all planned content. Perhaps shortening the initial explanatory portion could allow more time for students to engage in group discussion tasks. I learnt about the use of ICT "classpoint", will have a try in my own lesson. Thank you!
