The Beach Boys obviously sing about things like the beach. Most of the lyrics consist of either surfing, women, fun times, and the beach. The sound comes from many different genres, but you can tell that it has influences from pop, rock, and some other genres like doo-wop. Many of the songs are upbeat, with many of the lyrics sang in harmony with a guitar in the background.

Influences

Most of the brains behind the Beach Boys was Brian Wilson. His influences alone are the most important influences of the Beach Boys. Brian Wilson takes influences from almost all over. One of the most famous influences were Chuck Berry. Brian Wilson stated "I met Chuck Berry one time on an airplane. I said, "Hi, I'm Brian Wilson!" He goes, "Hey," and then he turned away. He wouldn't talk to me. Too bad. But he taught me how to write rock and roll songs." He liked Chuck Berry's sound, he even used Berry's popular guitar riff in a Beach Boys song. He also took influences from more pop artists like girl groups. He liked songs by the Ronnettes like "Be my Baby". One of the bigger influences were doo-wop groups like Four Freshmen. Brian Wilson really like the Four Freshmen and took inspiration from the harmonic style. You can see things like harmony in Beach Boys songs like "Surfer Girl". Brian also looked up to producer, Phil Spector and his wall of sound. He was obsessed with the Wall of Sound and thought it was incredible.

Brian Wilson is considered a genius in the music industry. By 1968 he considered himself to be an experienced song writer and he knew what each basic key meant to himself. Things like harmony usually meant notes that are perfectly and mathematically related to each other. The Beach Boys eventually became one of the biggest bands of all time
