You will be required to make a 4-7 minute presentation about a specific type of energy production from the following list:
Fossil Fuels:
Coal
Petrolium
Natural Gas
Alternative Energy:
Nuclear
Hydrogen
Green Energy:
Solar
Hydroelectric
Wave
Tidal
Geothermal
Biomass
Wind

You will make a 7-10 slide presentation with google slides about the following content, make sure to follow the 6 by 6 rule: no more than 6 bullets per slide, with no more than 6 words per bullet. Do not try to write sentences. Instead, make a list of things you want to mention or talk about for the class to follow. Explain your bullets. A script is good, but you need to make sure you are confident enough in the content to explain in your own words.
Slide 1: Introductions/Title
Slide 2: What is your type of energy? Where does the energy come from?
Slide 3: How does it work? How do we convert your type of energy into electricity
Slide 4: Pros
Slide 5: Cons
Slide 6/7: Examples. Where in the world is this energy converted? What are these places called? Give at least 3 examples of places in the world (cities, specific harvesting locations). Try to get at least 1 place in the U.S.
Slide 7/8: Conclusion. How should we use this energy? Why do you believe this is true? Wrap up your presentation.
Optional: Create a kahoot. Not required, but if you have extra time make a 3-5 question short kahoot to assess how well your classmates were listening.

You will be given two grades for this assignment, a classwork grade for the presentation slides and am assessment grade for the presentation portion of the project. You will be assessed according to the STEM Presentation Rubric posted in Important Documents column of the padlet.

If you finish a

Make sure you site sources for each answer. Some questions can be answered with pictures and titles, some require writing. All require you to research and find information about wind turbines and how they work. This list might grow as we learn more. Working together and having discussion of your research is encouraged.

1. Why are alternative energies important?
2. What kind of engineering is involved with designing, constructing & maintaining a wind farm?
3. What are some main parts of a wind turbine?
4. What are some wind turbine designs?
5. Describe some important parts of a wind turbine that help it create energy. 3-5 parts should be in your list. Make sure to mention what the part does.
6. Watch at least 1 video about building a homemade wind turbine. There are really advanced designs and simple ones. Try to find one that you can obtain the parts for or just watch to get an idea of what type of structure you will need. Just put the link for the video or videos you watched as the answer to this question.
7. What are some materials you can use to construct your own wind turbine in class. I will provide motors/generators as well as some basic supplies. Ask me and I may be able to get some things.
8. What are 3-4 blade types you think will be successful and why?

*Don't forget, videos can be sources too if they are from a reliable source. Lots of good info on YouTube. Just remember to use your technology RESPONSIBLY*
