Prisons aren’t always effective as more people than ever are reoffending after being in prison. If punishments were tougher, people may commit less crime. For example, dubai has very strict punishments and there is barely any crime there

Yes because, people must understand there are consequences to crimes, otherwise the crime is downplayed and shown as normal/alright. It also keeps the public safe from violent offenders.

Criminals shouldnt be allowed to roam freely and commit more crimes, if being in prisons can prevent that then it’s the best for the victims and the criminals

It should be assessed on a case by case basis, depending on the crime because in my opinion some crimes are unforgivable and deserve the worst punishment possible, e.g. capital punishment. But I don’t believe this is the case for all people such as the women in the documentary, she should’ve never gone to prison. But some people are so far down the line of crime that they are beyond rehabilitation and people that commit the worst crimes possible should be punished by death.

I think they’re good because they take dangerous people off the street making them a safer place for the public. It also gives them time to work on themselves meaning that when they came out, they will have worked on and improved themself which also makes them less likely to recommit.

It depends on each case no case is the same for example if someone committed murder you don’t wake up and think I'm going to kill somebody you have to have a motive and plan it. I think people like who commit serious crimes don’t deserve to see light they are beyond rehab. But in other cases they are able to be rehabilitated.

This depends on the crime itself. If someone has committed a violent crime which left a victim killed or greatly injured they should be locked up for life with minimal access to things such as huge football pitches and gardening. Those who committed lesser crimes should be assessed individually and an appropriate sentence should be given but also with a minimal access to things that regular citizens can access. In certain incredibly violent cases, one should be sentenced to a death penalty.

I think prisons are good as they take dangerous people off the streets and make the public feel safer, however they also may make the prisoners more likely to commit crimes when they are released as they have been surrounded by prisoners who may be worse than them which will make them commit crime as they are constantly around it.

Yes because some offenders are far too violent to just be put on litter picking duty, they must be separated from society, for the sake of society. Prison also serves as a very good disincentive for committing crime. It’s not fair for someone to take multiple lives and receive no punishment

Prisons can allow criminals to become better, protect the public, punish them not make them re-offend however this doesn’t always work as many think the punishments are not very tough. It can also be very difficult for them to integrate back into society and struggle to find jobs and housing and often are forced to go back to their old ways. I think people should only be sent to jail for serious crimes and not ones Such as not paying bills.

Yes as if not the prisoners would roam the streets and be a risk to the public. However I think prisons are overused sometimes especially for those how haven’t committed dangerous crimes.

Current prisons don’t properly prevent reoffending. Rehabilitation and protection of society should be the main focus of prisons. Putting offenders through more adverse experiences, like isolation in prisons, leads them to commit more crime.
