I picked To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee because its a classic. I think this book will be a sliding glass door for Lisette and she will learn a lot from it. This book is a 9th grade reading level so it will be perfect for Lisette! It talks about very deep topics, but it is very important information to learn.

I picked A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle because it is such an amazing book, play, and movie. I think this book will be a window for Lisette and I feel like it's a book she will really stay engaged with. It is an easier read it is a 5th grade reading level, but it has some in interesting topics in it! It is such an amazing book, and I highly recommend.

I picked We Who Produce Pearls by Joanna Ho because it gives an amazing look on Asian culture. This book will be a great mirror for Lisette because she is mixed black and Asian, and it will be good for her to get this look into her own culture. This book is for middle schoolers so it should be perfect for Lisette.

I picked She Came to Slay by Erica Armstrong Dunbar because it is about Harriet Tubman which is one of the people that Lisette really looks up to. This book will be a great sliding-glass door for Lisette, hopefully she will be able to emerge herself into the book. This book is a little higher than Lisette's reading level but again it will be a great challenge for her. This book seems very inspiring and very breathtaking!

I picked Brown Girl Dreaming by Jaqueline Woodson because it is about a little girl story growing up as an African American girl in the 1960s and 1970s. This book should be a great mirror for Lisette. This book is so touching a powerful and each poem is so inspirational. This book is at a middle school reading level, and it is an amazing read. I read it myself when I was in middle school, and I absolutely loved it.

I chose A Black Women's History of the United States by Daina Ramey Berry and Kali Nicole Gross because it is an award-winning book/series. This book is a high school level reading, but I think Lisette will like it because it is challenging. This book will be another great window for Lisette because it will allow her to deep dive into her culture.

I chose El Deafo by Cece Bell because it is such an amazing book, and it is also a New York Times best seller graphic novel. I chose this book because I read it, and it completely changed my life. This book is a middle school reading level so it may be a little easy for Lisette, but the context of the book is so amazing. I recommend this book to literally everyone and it is such a sweet story.
