In terms of student characteristics, Vietnamese learners are often respectful, quiet, and hesitant to speak up, especially in group settings or when unsure of the answer. This stems from cultural norms that value humility and “saving face.” They may avoid risks for fear of making mistakes, which can hinder language development or classroom engagement if not carefully managed.

Therefore, the role of teachers becomes even more critical. Teachers must balance academic rigor with emotional support, creating a safe and encouraging atmosphere where students feel comfortable participating. Incorporating interactive activities, positive reinforcement, and culturally sensitive communication helps build trust and confidence. Understanding students’ backgrounds and their family expectations allows us to guide them more holistically — not just as learners, but as individuals navigating complex social and academic pressures.

TOPIC: REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS

Games are one of the favorites of the students in class. This is one way I can think of that will help personalize and make the lesson full of fun. The spinning of the wheel and the suspense of not knowing what phrase will come out will add up to the excitement. This energizer or activity is called Memory game. It is an activity where it can be applied either one-on-one or many students. This game will help learners to stay focus and active that relates to the topic with food, animals, or sports. The game includes observation, word sequence, letter memory, sports (topic) memory, and sentence memory.

This interactive game is designed to help my students stay focused and actively engaged during class. It promotes participation in a fun and dynamic way, making the learning experience enjoyable not only for the students but also for the teacher.
