         <description><![CDATA[<div>Originated from the South Sulawesi in Indonesia, the Bugis people were known for their seafaring and warring skills.<br><br>The Bugis merchants settled in Singapore at around 1819. They occupied an area that extended from Kampong Glam to the mouth of Rochor river.<br><br>To encourage them to settle down in Singapore, Stamford rafflesa laid out a Bugis town!<br><br>Which is pretty much around the location of Bugis you see now.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Bras brasah means wet rice in Malay.<br><br>In the early days, boats carrying sacks of rice would unload people would dry them along the banks of sungi brass brasah.<br><br>The rice would always get wet and hence they named the place brass Basah.<br><br>An interesting fact is that one of Singapore’s oldest bookstores “ Shanghai book company” was previously housed here around 1800-1925. It was one of the big 4 pre-war Chinese book stores in Singapore. </div>]]></description>
