We discussed the letter name, sound and possible words that start with the letter. To make it more engaging, I had students sing a short song while stirring the cauldron. “Bibbity, boppity, boo/Let's make an alphabet stew./Take a letter from the pot and let's see what we got!”

This activity can be adapted to sight words or content vocabulary words. This is a great activity for emergent writers who are just getting comfortable with copying words around the room and students are excited to share their findings with the whole class when we make an anchor chart for that alphabet letter.
