Not all of the people were lucky to continue walking through the snow. Some survivors of the Donner Party who had been stranded because of the cold had no food or supplies. Some resorted to eating the people of the Donner Party who had died. It is clear that they did not want to do this though. Before they started eating the dead they eat twigs, bark from trees and leaves, animal hides and charred bones. After they had nothing left they ate the dead.

Now that you have watched the video it is pretty easy to tell its for kids. But I still love how they broke it down. How he grew up working in the frontier/ wilderness in Texas before it even became an official state. I like also how he became the King of the frontier. His death fighting for Texas and dieing made him a hero for Texas. How he died for what he thought was right was so brave. He inspires me to fight for what I think is right in life and no matter the cost sometimes keep fighting!

During the 1860s our country was very divided. Most people in the south had slaves to help them do their work. Like farming or helping grow cotton. But the people in the north thought that having slaves was bad. The free states where the states where nobody had slaves which was mostly in the north and the slave states where the states that had slaves. This is one of the big issues that led to The Civil War. The arguments between the slave states and the free states about prohibiting slavery led to the Fugitive Act. The Fugitive act made people who hid or helped saves get free made them go to jail. It also made slaves who got caught got beat and punished. Also the fugitive slaves couldnt testify in court.

In all around 360,000 Union soldiers died and in the confederacy around 260,000 died. Many died by getting shot, wounded or diseased. Most got recruited by local communities or groups. Many teens also tried to go to war to. You had to be 18 or above. A lot of them tried many different ways.

Like the water the frog croaked and the barefoot knew it was fresh. The same with the berries to. Also when the Heavy Boots where coming the mosquitoes knew to only bite them and not the barefoot. But I think that this book is a very good book because of how the animals helped them and how the barefoot was trying to find freedom.

I think the north had a better strategy because how is waiting for the north to give up a good plan. I think it was a good idea of the north to block the import of manufactured goods and stop the sale of cotton for the south. You can definitely tell who had thought about it more and not just go right into it. The north also had a bigger population which might have meant more men to fight in the war. They also had a bigger industrial base, a greater amount of wealth and a better government.
