Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, Room to Read develop's literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.

1. Teacher training and support

• Provides early grade teachers with professional development and in-class coaching 
• Offers training on how to effectively manage a library and conduct activities that encourage students to red independently

2. Reading materials

• Creates and publishes local language materials that are for readers of various levels and feature a diverse range of topics

3. Learning spaces

• Partners with communities to build or repair learning spaces so children have safe child-friendly environments where they can focus
• Projects include building all-new classroom blocks to alleviate crowding, renovating existing school spaces to improve lighting, safety and ventilation, establishing library spaces

• Room to Read teams interact with government officials and school administrators to promote more girl-friendly learning environments. This might include advocating for separate restrooms for female students, training teachers to be more inclusive or addressing safety issues
• “Social mobilizers” who act as role models, counselors and advocates for the girls who provide emotional support and guidance to help girls along their own individual journey
