What parts of society did women demand there be change?

In the mid 1800's, the only "proper" activities for married women included housework and childcare (which was later named cult of domesticity). During the Antebellum era, women demanded change in how they were treated. The women reformers mainly protested for abolition, women's health, women's education, and banning the consumption of alcohol (the temperance movement). Some men supported their efforts while others denounced the female abolitionists. The opposition only made the women more determined to receive the rights they deserved.

Breanna Pederson

The Declaration of Sentiments (a document signed by 68 women and 32 men—100 out of 300 attendees at this convention that was organized by women regarding equality) became "the single most important factor in spreading news of the women's rights movement around the country in 1848 and into the future," said a female historian that attended the convention.

http://bit.ly/1LsXRWk

Breanna Pederson

Lucretia Mott (January 3, 1793 – November 11, 1880) was an American Quaker, abolitionist, women's rights activist, and a social reformer. Mott was well known for her pledges and speeches for women's rights, which was rare because women were not able to speak in public at the time. She had a prominent role in the first women's rights convention (The Seneca Falls Convention) as she was one of the main public speakers who also helped in writing and speaking about the Declaration of Sentiments. Mott began publicly speaking about women's rights when she had learned that her teaching job gave her a salary that was half the amount of a man's salary, although they had worked the same position. She was also credited for speaking against slavery and taking in runaway slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad.
Breanna Pederson

Westward Expansion is a very important piece of US history. It not only allowed us to expand our nation, but to continue expanding our nation, as the people said "Manifest Destiny", meaning that it was an obvious destiny for the US to be a coast-to-coast country, taking over Mexico's land along with native lands. The idea if moving west, economic opportunity, and freedom were synonymous. Freedom was what the US had always stood for, so everybody wanted a piece of the action!
http://bit.ly/1zdgtz2
(Matthew Sobaszkiewicz)
Image: The pioneers are moving left (west on a map) and past/over the Appalachian Mountains.
