         <description><![CDATA[<div>We propose to build a class/afterschool/beforeschool program to support African American students (and possibly others in need) who seek to change their destiny by enrolling in a class that is an upward shift from their previous trajectory.<br><br>Following are some disheveled notes from our discussion:<br><br>(model from history)<br>1) Break all barriers to enrollment<br><br>2) Enrollment way up, particularly for AA students<br><br>3) Summer support weeks:&nbsp; formal but with food<br><br>Questions (possible roadblocks)<br>release time for teachers?<br>cost of food?<br>cost for taxis?<br>student leaders?<br>salaried position?<br>Does the class Instruct Content?<br>Does the class Teach and encourage practice of Skillz?<br>Open to all "underrepresented kids?"<br><br>How do we sell the shift upward to kids?<br>&nbsp;- why AP?<br>- data on college readiness and success correlated to AP (even if not getting a 4 or 5)<br><br>One student could test the transition - ask a Globe reporter to serially meet with them to help tell the world what the strengths and weaknesses of the program throughout the first year.<br><br>What do we call it:<br>PAP - Preparation for AP<br>SNAP - Starting Now:&nbsp; AP<br>RAP - Readiness for AP<br>WHAP - What's AP<br>CRAP - Creating Real AsPerations<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
