The topic chosen was How Response to Intervention (RTI) Works. As a middle school interventions teacher, I use RTI framework to monitor the progress of my struggling students. I see the benefit interventions has on my students. There are two types of interventions, Intentional and Specific/Formalized. Intentional interventions are aimed at a particular challenge. Specific and formalized interventions last a certain number of weeks or months and is reviewed at set intervals. I chose to research RTI because I am in the middle of a struggle with my intervention students who are distant learning at this time.

The legal guide topic of RTI is a crucial component of creating successful schools that will allow the delivery of the highest quality level of education for ALL students. Speaking with Frances Martinez (personal communication, November 16, 2020), my instructional coach at Kazen middle school who specializes in RTI stated, "RTI has impacted our rolls by extending the way we plan the curriculum and instruction." In addition to considering the various methods of instruction, she informs me "it is also important to consider the various methods to address classroom management and social emotional learning."
A strain that RTI imposes on the educational system is the stress of having limited resources to address the ever increasing demands of meeting the best practices of RTI.
The best practices of RTI include:
-Maintaining a multi-tiered service delivery model that addresses the unique needs of every student.
-Use high quality research based instruction methods.
-Utilize small group instruction to address special needs of each student.

Emerging issues with RTI involve the current pandemic that we are experiencing. Difficulty in getting students to attend class during virtual instruction has proven to be a hindrance in acquiring accurate placement testing data, progress monitoring assessments, and being able to deliver actual focused RTI instructional strategies.

Previous to the RTI initiative, many students were not eligible to receive certain services because they were not eligible for services under the special education program.
