Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on Sunday, December 7, 1941. It was a surprise attack. The attack lasted 110 minutes, from 7:55 AM until 9:45 AM. The Japanese launched the airplanes into the harbor approximately 45 minutes apart. Japanese specifically chose to attack on Sunday because they believed Americans would be more relaxed on a weekend. The Japanese traveled 3400 miles across the Pacific to execute their attack on Pearl Harbor. Over 2,400 Americans were killed in the attack and many more were wounded. The next day, President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan.
