I think its important to teach the students about the digital citizenship for their protection when using the internet and it teaches them what they post on the internet is there forever and future colleges, and employers will look back and see those things, which means what you post will create your image for the rest of your life. As a teacher you are the one that helps create a future for a child and helps set them up for life, so teaching them about digital divide maybe one of those things that stick in their heads for the rest of their life and keep them safe when using the internet and may help them rethink what they are about to post before its to late and its stuck on the internet for the rest of their life.
