What are 3 ways the space race created competition between the US and USSR?

1. First, it created conflict because both the USSR and the USA wanted to be the first country to make it all the way into space. And this caused both countries to work their hardest to make it into space as quickly as they possibly could. The USSR would officially be the first country to make it into space, with the launch of the Sputnik.
2. Second, with the USSR being the first country to officially make it to space, Both countries would try to be the first country to make it to the moon. And because the USA not making it to space the fastest, They put full effort into being the first country in the world to walk on the moon. And they would end up being the first country to walk on the moon on July 21, 1969, with Neil Armstrong's famous "One small step for man, One giant leap for mankind."
3. And finally, with the USA being the first on the moon, the USSR was the first country to build a modular space station. So, the USA shot back by beginning to make a reusable Space Shuttle.
