In many countries like Ukraine which was taken over by Russia in 1998. At the time Christianity was dominant in this country and many others, but the government wouldn't allow what the people wanted so everyone had to follow one religion which was western orthodox. 1953 - Death of Stalin ushers in less repressive rule at home, although Communist Party political dominance is firmly upheld.
1991 - Russia becomes independent as the Soviet Union collapses and, together with Ukraine and Belarus, forms the Commonwealth of Independent States, which is eventually joined by all former Soviet republics except the Baltic states.
2000- President Putin wins election.

Not many countries have found piece, for the belief in  certain religion has to do with where they live, and its all small countries bunched together. Rivalries and diversity is the outcome of all this.
