In the text it states, "I didn't speak English, I reminded them, only Russian". Also the text states, " we waited five hours to be processed thundered with strange voices and terrifying faces". Her attitude changes from being upset and scared to being excited and hopeful because she made a new friend that's helping her learn English. I say this because, ", and my new friend Katya promised to help me learn English". Also, the text states, "New York City might become a home for me after all!".
In the beginning of the story “Landing at Ellis Island” by Anya Bulkagova, Anya feels Mad at the beginning. In the text it says, “I don’t talk to my parents”. This shows that Anya is upset to her parents because she had to leave Russia, and all of her friends behind. The text also says, “I didn’t speak English, I reminded them, only Russian…”. This shows that Anya doesn’t know English and she is worried of how she will do in America. But, Anya’s attitude changes to a positive way to the end of the story. In the text it states, “… my new friend Katya promised to help me with English.”. It also states, “Father has secured work at a printer’s shop”. This shows that Anya’s family is doing pretty good in America. Also, in the text is says, “New York City might just become a home for me after all!” This proves that Anya is thinking that she will do good in her new home. This shows that Anya’s attitude changes positively towards the end of the story.

In the story "Landing At Ellis Island" by Stuart Crowley, Anya's attitude from the beginning of the story to the end of the story changes from first being sad that she had to leave Russia knowing full well she was raised there, and also knowing that she has to leave all her previous friends behind. And then went on to being happy. In the text it says "I didn't speak English, I reminded them, only Russian, and I wouldn't know any of their customs. I miss my real home." Showing how sad she was considering she had to leave her home and move to a whole different place when she doesn't even speak any other languages except Russian. And she then becomes happy because she had made a new friend, and New York is for everyone! She was so happy that she was starting to think of New York as home. In the text it says "We've rented rooms in a building with other Russian immigrants, and my new friend Katya has promised to help me learn English. Father has secured work at a printer's shop, and mother has made my favorite shashlyk and pirozhki dishes for our new neighbors--New York city might just become a home for me after all!" This shows that she is happy knowing that she isn't the only Russian in New York City. And with this, I conclude my essay.
