Age and Gender

The genre of my movie is going to be a Crime/Thriller. The primary audience I will be aiming my movie towards is 15+ and this will be further consolidated with the age rating of the film being 15 or over. This is due to the movie having aspects of , violence and controversial psychological scenes which, in my opinion would not be suitable for anyone who is of a younger age. The older ages (40+) may not have the time to see the film, as they will be busy with their full time jobs, children and generally have less free time. However, they could go watch the film in the evenings or on the weekends, when they have more free time to socialise. I believe the target audience, will be in-between the ages of 15-40 as this will target two main groups. Students and Parents. These two demographics have been chosen as they are so associated with the entire movie. The film's main setting is a School, a place where teenage students attend and where parents feel that their children will be safe. Although some adults will like this film, others may avoid watching the film due to its controversial plot, whereas the younger audience may enjoy the thrill of the movie. This film has taken inspiration from a number of films, such as, Die Hard With a Vengeance, due to the villains motive and style, as well as films like Phonebooth (2002), The Dark Knight (2008) and The Truman Show (1998). They all are Crime Thriller movies which have deep and dark plots which are also inappropriate films to watch for children under the ages of 15. The cast is predominantly constructed with male characters but the film is aimed at both males and females. This is because the plot and story is the key aspect to grasp from this movie and not the characters, but rather the story and the message we are trying to present

Inspirations From Other Films

My Movie begins at a brand new school, that has just opened for the new school year. It is a vast improvement from the dated building before it, with the school being larger, more modern and secure. The atmosphere from teachers and student is positive. The story revolves around a sadistic villain who chooses 2 students to have the responsibility of finding a bomb in the school that has the potential to cause thousands of deaths from a push of a button. He contacts them by phone and gives them clues in riddle form, this idea was inspired form the third installment from the Die Hard Series.

Audience

My audience will enjoy watching thriller movies and will need to have a good sense of the conventions of thriller movies in order to watch it. It would also help if they had some knowledge of horror movies. This could include films such as Se7en, Usual Suspects, Pulp Fiction, The Silence of the Lambs, Reservoir Dogs and The Departed. In their spare time, they would spend their time with their friends . This is good as this is how most people go and watch thriller movies, because thrillers often have hidden clues, twists and cliffhangers and are best seen as soon as possible in the cinema, before anyone can spoil the film. The audience can also be long times fans of the genre and will want to watch the new thriller movie that is due to come out and will be intrigued to see how it will be different from previous films from the genre.

Nationality and Class

My movie will appear to mainly British people, as the locations and characters chosen are British and so it will be more relatable if the audience is more familiar. A good thing about the movie is that it isn't heavily affected by nationality, this allows us to market to a wider audience. The language spoken will be be British English, this was chosen as the main audience who will watch this film will be people who can speak and understand the language. The class of the movie doesn't matter, as we have steered clear away from identifying characters having a different class from one another. The audience, however, starts at 15 year olds who are in education and spend the free time they have, socialising with there friends by possibly spending the money they earn through small jobs or part time jobs on going to the cinema. The film is definitely open to the older ages, as they have more disposable income to spend and enjoy themselves at the cinema even though they have more responsibilities, such as, full time jobs and maybe even children, but the option is always there for them.

Jicnar Scale

The JICNARS Scale is a Target Marketing and Consumption Behavior tool used by media to profile their audience into different categories based on social class, occupation, and perceived economic status. This scale shows that our audience can be a from a wide range of occupations due to the age range. Are our age range begins at 15, and will end at around 35. So our primary audience would be in the groups of E/D/C2/C1 and possibly B as well. The people from the ages between 15- 21 years old, could be students who may have low paying part time jobs, or apprenticeships , that will help them through their education and there social life. But there are also people in this age range that will have skilled or unskilled jobs, probably in the manual labour sector such as constructions workers/builders. The age range could also include people who have just graduated and are looking for high salary jobs which will mean the have a higher socio-economic status. I believe that the big part of our audience will be teachers and school staff and they would fall under the social grade of B and A. They are a very valuable audience as they have more disposable income to spend at the cinema and would be more comfortable doing so, as they have higher paid jobs. The genre of the film still could tempt people of all socio economic statuses to watch this film.
