         <description><![CDATA[<p>This article made me think about the ways in which we talk to students about progress and how academic success is measured. Success for all students looks different and can be measured in many ways so a key takeaway from this is about how the conversations and ways in which we phrase things have an impact. The idea of always having high expectations links to this. Using the way we talk about success and problem solving is one way we can demonstrate a growth mindset in class and utilise this as a strategy. </p>]]></description>

         <title>The Role of Metacognition in Second Language Teaching</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This article caught my attention because I teach Year 9 Te Reo Māori, and it reminded me of the various strategies used to learn a language. One method I discovered is called Te Atarangi. This approach uses rākau (sticks) as a tool to engage different learning styles in language acquisition.</p><p><br></p><p>The article itself argues that beyond learning the language itself, students benefit greatly from being taught how to manage and reflect on their own learning processes.</p><p><br></p><p>By teaching learners how to plan, select, monitor, orchestrate, and evaluate their learning strategies, teachers can significantly enhance students' ability to learn a language. In essence, fostering metacognitive awareness not only improves immediate learning outcomes but also equips students with lifelong learning skills.</p>]]></description>
