It can be used to treat symptoms of AIDS, including nausea, loss of appetite, and immunosuppression. It is also seen as a cheaper, faster-acting alternative to the drugs typically treating the same symptoms. While other medications take over an hour to kick in and cost hundreds of dollars, medical marijuana is a fraction of the price and takes effect within minutes.

This resource explains the perspective of the FDA on marijuana usage. The FDA has not approved any usage of the drug, both medical and none. They expressed that they have not found any beneficial research related to marijuana and they have not found the product to be safe and or effective under any indication. Furthermore, the FDA has announced that they are aware that certain states have legalized marijuana, whether that's medically or in general, and they are giving the states the opportunity to communicate with the FDA if they are considering supporting medical research on marijuana in a Federal and scientific standard. The FDA has not taken a stand on the ‘Right to try’ bills, but they do support and put their personal efforts towards marijuana research to see if they can find any beneficial evidence to move closer to supporting the legalization of cannabis.
