He began as a trader on Wall Street during the Civil War, and was known for manipulating stock prices. Some of his business practices would've been illegal in today's society and he is known for his role in "The Gold Corner," where he and other businessmen tried to corner the gold market, and the "Erie Railroad War," where Gould was battling to gain control of the Erie Railroad.</div>]]></description>
