One the best way to help teach critical thinking is modeling to the students how to solve everyday problems. Preschool teacher can help students develop critical thinking skills is by working in small group to discuss how solve a problem by reading a book. Critical thinking helps the teacher to make decision about how to teach the students that have different level.

School can help contribute critical thinking by solving a puzzles and block building.

Families can help contribute is by having family reading and as kids question about the story.

In the communities, Local librarian can read to the kids.

Engaging in competencies 2: Creativity

Teacher can help develop a child creativity, just by letting them to be free. As a teacher you can create a workstation that allow their creativity to flow. You can have art center or journal center to put their thoughts on paper. During transitioning allow the students to free write or free draw using a journal. Sometime kids get tired and stressed about everyday work, they just want to do something to let their mind be at ease.

School can contribute by allowing preschool students to say the pledge allegiance or help with the announcement.

Families can help contribute allow them to have family craft time.

Communities: Parent can sign up at the local YMCA or community center to help find creative things they would like to do to expand their mind.

Engaging in Competence 3: Collaboration

Teacher can help develop a student collaboration skills is have them to practice on everyday basis. In your classroom, you can have the student sit in groups, setup workstation, and do small group. Each of this components help the student to learn how to work with each other and share things.

School can help contribute to by giving the student jobs. This would teach responsibility and take accountability.

families can contribute by allowing the kids to help around the house with chores.

In the community, you help keep the neighborhood safe and clean by picking up trash or start a recycling bin.

Engaging Competence 4: Communication

Teacher can help develop this competence is modeling how to communicate with each other. To be a good communicator you have to be a good listener as well. In Prekindergarten, we have to teach the student how to be whole body listener. Morning circle and afternoon circle is way to teach students to communicate with their whole body. During whole group, you model and teach the rules of the class. For independent practice, have them practice the guidelines while at workstation and small group. You have to understand voice level when talking with each other.

School can contribute by having the student participate in the morning announcement with principal or office staff.

Families can contribute by having a game night.

In the communities have the parent take the kids to fire or police department to talk about safety.

Engaging in competence 5: Flexibility

PreK student being flexible in a new school setting can be difficult. The teacher can help them feel comfortable is during morning circle read a story about first day of school or any changes. By reading the story to the students and discussing how the character. Then, discuss how the student can relate to the story.

School can contribute by allowing give the students choice during certain activity.

Families can contribute listening and giving them choice with the daily routine. Instead of telling to brush teeth first, give them a choice bath or brush teeth first. it will help them to adapt the routine without much fuss.

Community contribute by giving opportunity to different parks.

When in a Prekindergarten class, a teacher is constantly hearing student telling on each other of the little things. Teaching Social skills to little ones is very important because it help them to work situation with each other. A good time to teach to social skills is during whole group. The can practice the concept during workstation, while the teacher actively monitoring the classroom.

School can contribute set a time in the morning for Bear circle to talk about how the student are feeling. And also discuss problem they may have.

Families can cooperative eating together as a family.

Community can have neighbor night out to get know your neighbor and community helpers.

Introduce: Gallery Walk

In my gallery walk, I will have a picture of each competence. I am displaying picture because PreK students learning to read through pictures. I will have the student walk around the room to see the picture of the different competences. I will have them come back to the whole group carpet, to discuss what the picture mean to them.

I will reinforce these six competence during Morning circle. When we meet each in the morning during circle. For example

I will greet them. (social skills) then, give a choice of what story to read(flexibility). Next, I will read the story and discuss what happen in story (critical thinking). While I am reading the story the actively listen and participation (communication and collaboration). After the reading the story, I would have them either act out their favorite of the story or draw it (creativity).

To assess my student on the comprehension of the six competences. I will have the student act out or draw one of the competence of their chose. They can work alone or with a friend. We will can back to whole group to display what they chose.

As I preparing for my own classroom, I picture my self incorporating these competences. I will display the pictures of each competences and the student walking around the room to view them. Like a actually gallery, have the students to determine what each picture mean to them.
