Not only is reading really enjoyable as a hobby, but to a young mind its value is limitless.  Reading exercises the brain, forcing you to create settings and characters within your mind, and also gives you the opportunity to expand your vocabulary.  It increases your brain's ability to make connections to the world around you, and give you the ability to learn and experience another culture and time period.  
Reading can be a fun, emotional, and educational experience all at once, all in your own head.

There are emotions and settings, character development and turmoil that can be conveyed through text that can't be displayed quite the same way through film. 
In an age where technology is advancing rapidly, it is more important than ever to instill a passion for reading at a young age.
For me, working directly with children and getting them excited about books is my life's dream.
