I don't really have a favorite poem. I just don't really like poetry, is all. I much prefer graphic novels with actual chapters, as their story is usually easier to follow. I also find that poetry is incredibly hard to write. That's why I don't have a favorite poem from this book, because I don't like poetry.

Poet X, The poem On Sunday, I choose this poem because I like and relate to it a lot, while having a past myself where I was only told of Christianity until 6th grade, and how I enjoyed it at first when it was more fun and you weren't excepted to fully take it seriously until when you get older, and once you mold into your own person and then it doesn't click as well and because of your family you were forced to keep going, even though it wasn't you.

I like the poem "On Papi" the best, as it speaks to me the most. It talks about having a father who is there, but an almost stranger. "Just because your father's present, doesn't mean he isn't absent." I relate to this in the way that as I don't see my dad a lot, he still treats me as a kid or does not realize I've changed as a person. It's sometimes like talking to a stranger.

My favorite poem is After because it represents the harassment that women feel almost everyday. It's so present in women's lives because it has became normalized to objectify women. A lot of men speak to women however they want because they think it's "funny" or "cool" or it'll help them get a relationship, but really it's disrespectful and childish. It also shows that Xiomara, being a quiet and reserved person, still gets harassed, it shows that women don't "ask for it" and the clothes she wears doesn't change what happens to her. She's had to learn to fight back because there is nothing else she can do.

My favorite poem from The Poet X has been "After"
I like how Xiomara talks about her feelings as something that could carve her open. How she talks about how angry she is and upset that boys and men feel like they can talk and act however they want to her. I think the part at the end where she writes "It happens when..." and writes in different endings. It shows no matter what you do, some boys and men will objectify you.

And when you deal with it you have to a certain way you cant be to aggressive cause your still a girl. But Xiomara this is the only time she can be honest and raw outloud so all of her feelings that are burried come out aggressive.

My favorite poem so far is "Names". This is because everyone's name is different and gives them an identity. Everyone has a story behind every name because there is a choice to give a name. If a name pops up, there is a reason for that, and I like that. Not only that but I like it because of the way it flows throughout. I enjoy how Xiomara gives examples of how her name is, what her name means and how it can fit how she is. Other than all of that, I do not have a favorite poem because the poems connect into a story, and I can see this poem as a standalone from everything.

But there are many things that you don't want to tell people. You don't want people to worry. So you just keep it all to yourself. This poem also stands out to me because whenever I read it over again it just makes me feel at peace and calm.

I have a Hispanic father, who doesn't really help around the house and sort of just exists and sits on the couch. I love him a lot, and he is in my life, but many of the things the author describes her father doing is what my papi does too. He calls Peru, watches his spanish shows and nags about my older brothers grades. She is litterally me, and my papi is honestly her papi.

My favorite poem from the book “The poet x” is the poem from page 51 titled “On Sunday.” This is my favorite poem because as you read you can infer that the main character is in a church with her family and even though she grew up religiously the more she has been going to church the more she has been questioning her faith. She has been questioning if she should even go to church anymore and if she even still believes. She struggles with the question of if her family did not make her go to church every week would she still go.

My favorite poem was "Spoken Word". I liked this poem because of how I related to it. Xiomara was talking about how she related to the poet, but so much about them were different. Xiomara said that they had different backgrounds, upbringings, and body, but Xiomara says that she doesn't feel so different from her. Xiomara says that she feels like she's been heard, as if she's not on her own island. Xiomara was feeling inspired, and she found something that she loves and wants to try, even though her mother wouldn't let her. Xiomara said it felt like a gift, even though it was "just a poem". It shows how she was brought into a whole new environment with poetry.

It’s my favorite because of the repetition and because it is very relatable. Feeling like you must stay quiet for the sake of your safety when men catcall and sexually harass you in public is a very real feeling that many women feel. It’s also very frustrating to know that you can’t do anything about it. It doesn’t matter what you wear or how you look because when you're a girl there will always be a man that feels entitled to your body.

The reason I like this poem is because when you're a girl, boys will always have something to say about your appearance or whatever you're doing. How Xiomara described how she feels whenever this happens is true you have to deal with the comments that are made and you can't be aggressive or show how you feel because you're a girl and nobody would listen, so Xiomara decides to write it down in a notebook and I respect that.

I can easily correlate to the story because it has some deep meaning that as a kid who has parents who work a lot and do things without me I feel like I was left out of most of my childhood and when I read things like this I can actually relate and it feels good to know other peoples understand how I felt.

Poet X, Ms. Galiano on page 37 is the poem I chose for this assignment. Ms. Galiano resonates with me the most as a story. Ms. Galiano is about Xiomara's new English teacher Ms. Galiano who is a young women that presents herself as big despite her small stature. This teacher later would leave a huge impact on Xiomara. Resonates with me due to my similar experience in the fourth grade when I met Mr. Castelli who was fresh out of college and into elementary schools teaching fourth grade. He was any other guy I thought but later would teach me lessons that I would carry still in my life.

After reading Poet X the poem i found relatable is "The Routine. "In this poem Xiomara explains how she has to help her mom with chores everyday even though her brother will help he doesn't get in trouble if he decid not to do it . i can relate to her brother because i don't get in trouble

I find the poem J. Colo vs. Kendrick Lamar related in some way because I fell to do it due to being in a new school this year and not have anyone to talk to in most of class and just forced to when a lab or group thing is going on.
