I graduated from Texas Tech's accelerated second degree BSN program in 2014. This program was based in Austin, TX, where I completed all my clinical hours. My prior BS degree was from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in nutritional sciences. Madison will always be my home away from home, as I lived there for the majority of my life.

My first job after nursing school was at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, where I worked on the neurosciences unit. It was an extremely challenging, yet rewarding position, and facilitated a huge amount of personal and professional growth for me.

After a few years of acute care, I got the itch to work in a preventative health care setting. I currently work as an RN at Austin Diagnostic Travel Clinic, where we see patients traveling to international destinations, and provide education on infectious diseases, vaccinations and medications.

I live in Austin, TX, and have been here for 8 years. I have created a family here with my husband Noah, our almost one-year-old son, Sawyer, and our eight-year-old lab rescue, Bailey. These guys are my world! I chose this photo because it perfectly captures the silly nature of our son.

I chose to attend graduate school for many reasons, but the most important reason revolves around my mother's chronic health problems. She has had several integral health care providers in her life, but the NPs she's met along the way have had a specifically positive impact on her care and well-being.

I think that this course will be extremely eye-opening for me. My previous studies only skimmed these topics and left much untouched. I want to understand and explore the inequalities present in health care delivery and help to ensure that those inequalities are eventually resolved. After having recently been in labor, the new data on maternal mortality related to racial disparities is completely alarming and upsetting for me. I'm hoping through education and resources, this will soon be changed.
