Also, she has to persist through these challenging times to try and survive another day.

This story is also about independence after Grandfather fell ill because Matilda had to take care of herself instead of others taking care of her. She also had to help care for others.

3rd Section (final thoughts)
This story is a combination of themes and topics. There is a hard truth about all of them. The theme of despair and hardships. Matilda has to go through her relatives dying, getting sick (she fears death), and having to survive on her own.
