They are prompted based off of the attached Powerpoint. Then, they have 5 minutes to write, 3 minutes to edit (based off of their FCAs), and 1 minute to share in their pods. Each pod has 3-4 students. Our school is full of many cultures. They bring their own experiences to the class and they write about it freely.

In the Read 180 Writing Community, the students see writing as more of a chore. If students seem like they are "spacing out," I try to give them time to collect their thoughts prior to redirection. In the Read 180 community, I am working on making it more social. Each student works independently, but I like for them to share their writings and readings.
