Base ones have degrees of comparison, and they can be used with the words very, more, less. For example, good, bad, strong.

Strong adjectives serve to express very strong emotions. Most often the word very cannot be added to such adjectives, since they already contain it in their meaning. Also, most of them do not form degrees of comparison.
