Hongbin's body moved awkwardly at first, but something in him clicked. The rhythm gave him a voice he didn't know he had. From then on, the rooftop became their sanctuary. They danced under the stars, sometimes in the rain, sometimes in silence. Hongseok taught him the basics-popping, locking, footwork-but Hongbin added his own flair, drawing inspiration from the way his mother folded hanbok fabric or how the wind blew over the leaves.

He danced through his grief, each movement a tribute, each beat a memory. He never told anyone. Not even his parents. It was his secret language with his brother. That's where it all began- not in a studio, but on a cracked rooftop under a flickering streetlamp. With a boy who danced not to be seen, but to remember.

After Hongseok's passing, Hongbin changed. He became quite at school, more withdrawn at home. His parents, already burned by grief, didn't notice the way he lingered on the rooftop after dinner or how his shoes were always scuffed from late-night footwork. He started recording himself with an old camcorder Hongseok had left behind. The tapes were grainy, but they captured something raw: A boy dancing not for applause, but to stay afloat. He'd study his own movements, refining them, layering emotion into every gesture. He wasn't just learning dance- he was learning how to speak again.

One day, a substitute teacher caught him practicing in an empty classroom. Instead of scolding him, she handed him a flyer for a local youth dance battle. "You've got something," she said, "Let the world see it."

He entered under the name "Rooftop" - a tribute to where it all began. He didn't win, but a judge pulled him aside afterward and said, "You don't dance like you want to impress. You dance like you need to be heard. Come to my crew. We will make the world hear you, together."

That moment lit a fire. He joined Pulse Theory,  where the judge was the choreographer and the owner of the dance studio. And for the first time, he wasn't dancing alone. The crew became his second family- loud, chaotic, fiercely loyal. They pushed him, challenged him, and sometimes clashed with him. But they also helped him believe that maybe, just maybe, he could turn this passion into a life.

By the time Hongbin was 16, Pulse Theory had become more than just a crew- it was a crucible. They practiced in abandoned warehouses, subway stations, and anywhere with enough space and a working speaker. Hongbin was the youngest, but his style was unmistakable: fluid, emotional, and unpredictable. He didn't just hit beats- he told stories.

Their big break came at the "Urban Echo" Dance Festival, a high-stakes competition where underground crews battled for a shot at national recognition. Pulse Theory wasn't expected to win- they were too raw, too unpolished. But Hongbin had an idea: a routine called "The Last Letter", inspired by the final note his brother had written before his death.

The performance was haunting. It opened with Hongbin alone on stage, tracing invisible words in the air, then exploded into a synchronized storm of movement as the crew joined in. The final pose- Hongbin reaching toward a spotlight that slowly dimmed- left the audience in stunned silence before erupting into applause.

That night, a scout from a major art foundation approached Hongbin with an offer: a scholarship to study dance abroad. It was everything he'd dreamed of- but it meant leaving Pulse Theory and his girlfriend behind, without him knowing that his girlfriend had heard everything. And the next day, she called off their relationship. That pushed him to go, not to escape, but to grow. He promised that he'd return, not just as a dancer, but as someone who could build something lasting.
