We have 27 students and it makes the lesson almost useless as we don't interact with the teacher. (because there are 27 students in a video call)

Maybe make zoom videos for the lessons and have teachers spend 10 -15 min with 6-7 students. That way students can have a more interactive learning experience.

Cause most of my classes now are basically teachers recording a video and using it for 2 or 3 of their classes. In some cases that's fine, but in other cases it would be more effective to be taught. If I got videos, I could rather watch it online for free as there are many good videos online.

1. The increased time- allows me to work at my own pace, and complete a lot more work.
2.The lack of information given about certain deadlines, like EE and Mock Exams. A lot of us are already stressing, because the format is quite new and has taken time for us to get used to it, and the uncertainty of those deadlines, adds onto that. Also, some teachers for certain subjects should provide more support, as some of the new content is difficult to learn alone.
3. Hold more live calls, because certain lessons and topics require live calls, rather than videos alone.
4. More than I used to because I'm not entirely sure what I should be doing and studying, because there's so much confusion around deadlines.

1. I like being able to take my time to really understand concepts by working at my own pace. It is also easy and efficient to communicate to teachers.
2. The workload for a lot of subjects is still so much larger than it used to be, I don't have time to finish the tasks set for the designated lesson hour, so after school hours I have to not only finish those but also to complete all of the additional homework. I am on my laptop for so long each day that my head always hurts at the end of the day.
3. Although most teachers do this, some could take more into consideration our struggles and concerns, especially when they are coming from an entire class. Some hold a lack of openness to change no matter how many of us suggest that the workload might be too heavy.
Secondly, if teachers could make sure to set every task on Managebac on the date that it is due, because it often gets very confusing and I never know where I should upload the completed tasks for when.
I also think that it could be a good idea to conduct an anonymous survey for each class on the students in order to see if teachers, and more specifically which teachers are still giving out way too much work.
4. I have been spending an unbelievable amount of time for my chemistry hl class (I am not sure about the number of hours per week, but it once took me 5 hours to complete one lesson and the homework given on that day).

We are getting a lot more work than we used to in school, which is actually quite stressful especially with the uncertainty about mocks, our TOK presentation etc. We have not received proper feedback for our TOK formative forms, even though our final one is due in less than 3 weeks. We have not been assisted much with our EE and the outline is also due in less than 3 weeks and our first draft deadline has been pushed up. Its hard to manage coursework with all these major upcoming deadlines.
3. Lay back a little bit with the numerous deadlines especially due to our upcoming EE and TOK deadlines.
4. I am literally at my laptop from 8am to at least 10pm. The only break I essentially take is to eat lunch and dinner and walk my dog
5. no

1. E-learning allows me to work at my own pace, which is really helpful as it helps me to focus more on the contents.

2. The workload is quite heavy. The amount of work that teachers expect us to finish within an hour is overwhelming. I'm trying my best to finish given work within the class time, but it doesn't work really well. It's like a dilemma: I fail to finish one work in one subject, then I move on to the another class and I fail finishing all the work too, then this repeats on and on. Eventually I end up having piles of work to do in the after school hours (usually takes about more than 6 hours)

3. For those of people who chose science for EE, please give us a detailed guideline on how to write EE without experimental data. Hope there are some teacher's guides and instructions on how to prepare for mocks.

🚨Also I really hope all teachers provide us with a monthly scheduled unit plan so that we are fully aware of what we're doing till end of year.

4. To be honest, I usually spend more than 3 hours per subject regardless of SL or HL which is very overwhelming and tiring. For chemistry especially, it takes more time to figure out certain concepts by my own. I am certain that I don't have my own life time due to the amount of work.

5. -

1. I really enjoy how we're allowed to take out own time to go through the work and since we're more hand on with our own learning it feels more structured.
2. On most days I feel overwhelmed with completing the classwork for each class during the one hour period and still being ready for the next class. Lessons are much shorter now and it's challenging to watch the videos and take notes while digesting new information and still being expected to complete the task for the day without considering homework.
3. I understand its new ground for everyone but maybe just giving us more information with how things are going to proceed now with testings, exams, ee and TOK. everything just feels so uncertain and its disconcerting being in the dark about your own future.
4. For Chem HL this week, I spent three hours taking notes and 6 hours on worksheets. English SL and French SL also take up most of my time. The amount of homework, classwork and notes from each class combined with EE and CAS has me working till 11 some nights even though I do believe I manage my time very well.

1. I really enjoy being able to work at my own pace and being able to pause he videos, take my time to understand the content etc. Teachers are also doing a good job in producing straight forward and relatively short loom videos that I can understand.

2. workload is double at least... classes are shorter yet the work that needs to be completed is double especially for subjects like english and math. For some subjects we are asked to cover the same if not more content which is harder since for those classes we used to be given handouts and now we need to write all the notes ourselves which takes more time. we don't manage to finish all the work for the lesson so we constantly need to catch up AND prepare for the next lesson.

3. Ask us more about the workload and if we are doing ok mentally haha. We all need to understand that this is a change for all.

4.
English - 4 hours
Math - 5 hours
DT - 3-4 hours
French - 1 hour
Economics - 3-4 hours
Business - 2 hours
CAS/TOK/EE - 3 hours

(keep in mind these hours are now that we are learning new material. next week and the following week when we have deadlines and assessments and IA's these hours will increase)

5. Mocks??? When are they happening, what is happening with predicted grades?

How are assessments going to happen?

What about students doing DT? For their EE and IA they need primary data like testing, body measurements etc....

EE? any updates on deadlines etc?

1. Working at my own pace has been nice, and allowed me to catch up in some places that I'm weaker in, or just needed extra attention/focus. Most of my teachers have been really open to clarifying info and giving extra support, which is really comforting
2. It can be hard to complete all the classwork, sometimes it takes more than an hour to complete the notes/watch videos/ understand content. So I either feel rushed, or there is some leftover that piles onto the workload.
3. Perhaps trying to give us some clearer information. It's obviously confusing for everyone but I think it's hard to feel 'in the dark' about how everything is going to proceed, and what we need to plan for/ what major changes will occur.

1. It’s good that we have independence in our work time and space, so we can work at our own pace. I feel like especially for math and biology, the way that these lessons are structured is working well for me. For biology, we have a call and our teacher does a screen share of the material we will be learning. This is similar to what we do in class. As for math, my teacher makes helpful loom videos, and quizizz assignments to check for our understanding. It is far more effective in checking our understanding rather than suddenly piling up homework.

2. In some classes, such as English and Chemistry for me, there is a lack of communication. In both classes, a message on managebac is dropped and the teacher checks in at the beginning of class

Like a lot of other people, I still feel like there is a lot of workload. Learning new material by yourself can be difficult, especially in a time of crisis like this. It often takes me longer than the allocated class time to finish the lesson itself, and on top of that there is homework as well.

One of my teachers was very unapologetic about the situation, and when our class asked about the stressful workload, told us that “it would’ve been the same if we were at school”. This doesn’t help at all, since we are all feeling pressure from the forwarded EE deadlines, the upcoming ToK presentation that we can’t really do, as well as the uncertainty about the mocks.

Recently we have been getting a lot of tasks in ToK as well, which is taking away time to do homework for other lessons. Why are there suddenly so many tasks from ToK?

3. Give us some slack, and continue asking about the workload, as well as actually ask about our situation. Different people are affected in different ways by this virus and quarantine. Some of us could be worrying about our families in our home country and some of us could just be feeling the pressure of school. I think that pretending that nothing is happening wrong in the world, and continuously pushing us to quicken the pace of our learning is ineffective and counterintuitive. If you're going to have us keep going to school despite the ongoing stress of a pandemic at our doorstep, please at least be kind to us.

Also, I think that giving us updates about the mocks, and about plans the school is making about the advice that our parents and that we are doing would be helpful. We don’t know what you’re doing with all this information and advice, and we don’t know how our grievances are going to be corrected. And giving us a reason on why the EE was moved up, as well as an explanation as to what we should do for the ToK presentation. If you can’t give us information, at least send an announcement to say that you are working towards an answer and how close the school is to that answer.

Also the school should understand that some subjects are easier to study alone than others. For me, sciences are hard to learn by yourself since there is a lot that you can get confused about. It’s essential to have the teacher there to answer questions as it’s easy to think that you understand when you really don’t. But math and psychology are easier, because you can go at your own pace and the learning is more independent. You can learn your own way and there’s less pressure since you’re alone.

4. HL
Psychology : 1-2 hours (mostly preparing for writing SAQs and finding studies)
Chemistry : 5+ hours (I spent hours after school trying to finish homework, and HL + class material. Recently, we had an IA assigned despite the fact that we have never written one before or done the experiment ourselves. Our teacher gave us no instruction on how IAs are supposed to be written)
Biology : 1-2 hours (mostly writing notes for myself)

SL
French Ab Initio : 3 hours (since we started focusing on orals, we get a lot of questions to record and it takes a long time to finish)
Math AA : 1-2 hours (the videos are concise, this time is spent practicing problems and completing homework)
English LangLit : 4+ hours (for some reason, English is giving me a lot more work than an SL subject really should be giving me)

5. Are the teachers going to finally find a way to check for understanding without making us do more homework? Will our questions about mocks, EE and ToK be answered soon or not?

E learning has been going okay, its easy to make a plan or what you need to do and in general is a nice quiet environment. Honestly the biggest challenge the teachers could help us with is scheduling their work for us and probably reducing load on us, for some reason i have like 7 assessments due/testing this week and another 4 already set for the week after, homework is usually manageable although it takes up more of my time than it should, but assessment are a whole diffrent thing and its unfair if I have three of them on the same day with literally 0 Seconds to recover between lessons. everyday after i have school i spend 1 hour on each of the subjects i head that day and i do my core if i had study, (meaning most days i do 4 hours) which is reasonable as i said but there is a whole mental part to us doing so much work as-well. its hard to stay motivated especially when the tasks we are given seem impossible, id recommend maybe turning down the work load and asking student the best time for a test because 3 tests back to back is too much.

only one thing id like more information on is the mocks, since our EE has now been moved up by a big margin and mocks have not yet been cancelled this causes a lot of anxiety.

I like to think of myself as a student which can manage their time properly, and hands in their work on time, but I find myself missing so many deadlines now and not being able to finish my work, without forcing myself to stay up. I can feel myself getting physically sick from trying to cram everything in, and could barely get out of bed on Thursday. If this continues, I either see myself becoming a lot physically sicker for the price of good grades, or failing to remain healthy. The increased workload is quite unhealthy, especially Chemistry HL. I understand it's a hard subject, and this topic is a lot more math based, but I find it unreasonable how I'm spending minimum 4 hours for every lesson, giving me less time for other subjects, even if I have summatives coming up for them. On top of this, some teachers need to inform us beforehand about upcoming tests, rather than giving us less than a week to prepare for them, such as BIOLOGY . My entire class is struggling to prepare, and a lot of us have OTHER work from OTHER CLASSES which is holding them back from preparing them to their best abilities. On top of that, she only properly announced the test on Thursday, and it is on Tuesday- I find this completely unreasonable, and we should be given more time. I understand this is quite new for everyone, including the teachers, but I'm already panicking because I'm unsure if I'm even going to get into university, and the only consolation I had was teachers and the school doing their best efforts to ensure we would pass, and still perform to our best abilities, but as of right now it seems like they're doing the complete opposite. I thought E-learning would help reduce my stress, and give me more time, but it seems to be doing the complete opposite. I can see myself losing motivation and giving up, which is the complete opposite of who I used to be last year. On top of that, I'm staying up until 3-4 am, just staring at my screen because I cannot bring myself to finish the work after spending like 6 hours already doing work.

Teachers also assign us work in class time that takes us longer than the class to do it, so it becomes additional homework on top of the homework we are already given.
- Sometimes, teachers take time to answer questions on teams as well, and by the time they do, its time for the next class, so we miss out on that work.
- Doing 3 lessons in a row after the break period is extremely draining and really hard. We have to transition in between each with no rest, and it fries my brain. In school, even though lessons were longer, we had 2 breaks, so more time to adjust.
- Deadlines in the weekend aren't fair. Just because things are due online now doesn't make it any easier to work in the weekend. We deserve some downtime.
- I've missed out on a lot of homework because of the overwhelming amount of assessments, both formative and summative, being assigned to us.
- The pressure of having all work you do from now on, both class notes and formatives, being checked and counted towards your grade is really stressful because in school before it never counted and was never checked by teachers, so I didn't feel the need to spend so much time on it to make it meet a certain standard.

the amount of work given to us is ridiculous. Chemistry especially, I've spent 5-6 hours every time we have a chem lesson just to take notes and finish the hw, thats 15 hours a week which is just stupid. English is making us do so much work as well. We have lives like you guys, we dont wanna sit infront of the computer all day.
Normally I used to rest by watching netflix but now i literally go away from my computer and rest my eyes and sleep. I've drank so much instant coffee even tho I hate coffee just to stay awake and finish the lesson work and homework teachers give us. Like a lesson is ONE HOUR LONG, don't give us 4 hours worth of work.

Chemistry takes so much time to do, english as well. Just give us a break.

My parents are telling me to stop being on the computer, thats how you KNOW ITS BAD.

stop making lessons that don't take an hour to complete.

- The workload we have is crazy and I feel like my entire day is spent on doing school work and it has taken up all my free time. I understand that this e-learning is new to teachers as well but they need to be more considerate about how much work we have from our other subjects as well.
- The english work is too much, even in SL. We are given way too much work in english and I have to spend too much time on that subject which is not even one of my HL's
- Chemistry HL is also too much. we finished an entire unit in just 2 weeks and the units would normally take us around 4 weeks or something.
- At this point it seems like teachers think that we don't have anything to do at home so they just decide to throw so much work at us which is very unfair as we have other things to do and school should not take up ALL our time at home.
- Also, teachers need to take into account the shorter lesson times when giving us work. They give us too much 'class work' which can not be finished in the given class time and then on top of that they give us heaps of homework.
- In biology, our teacher told us about a test on Thursday and the test is on Tuesday which is so unfair because we weren't even given a weeks notice. It just seems to me that teachers aren't being considerate at all
- Also, the EE deadline in June is really unreasonable especially with the current workload we have. I don't know when I can even work on that.
- Overall, I thought e-learning would be more chill and I wouldn't stress as much but I actually find it way more stressful and its demotivating me so much I don't even know what to do.

I would say E-Learning has been nice in the sense that we have more freedom to do what we want and how we want it, and for the majority of the time, its at our own pace.

My workload overall has tripled since the start of E learning. Although I understand that this is also new for teachers, I find it ridiculous how teachers are unable to estimate exactly how much work they are giving us, especially within the short classes that we have. In addition to this, considering the tight schedule of the lessons, I feel as though I have NO time to recover. It is rare for me to ever be fully confident with a lesson I've just learned, as I almost always find myself having to finish off the class work afterwards. This class work as well as the massive amount of 'homework' that we are given, piles up to the point that we have almost no time to relax. Forcing many of us to stay up late just to have some free time.

This is mostly the case with subjects like English, Math, History and Arabic. To give an example of how ridiculous Arabic has been. Our teacher gave us around 45 minutes to complete an individual oral - that's 45 minutes to read an article, do additional research, write a script, and finally record it whilst making sure that it is at least 10 minutes. Might I mention that we were usually given 1-2 weeks to do this while school was happening.

As for Math, the workload is manageable. At first it wasn't too hard, but now since the content has become more complex, I am starting to find the videos made by random teachers online to be inadequate enough for us to thoroughly understand. Especially with a subject like Math I think its more important for the teachers to make some videos themselves, or perhaps do a live conference.

For History, we've been informed that we have 3 things due next week. Two lesson tasks which require collaboration with other students, as well as an exam. The stress of having to complete 3 deadlines in one week and only for ONE subject is quite alarming.

Lastly, as an English HL student I think I can speak on behalf of everyone when I say that the workload is extreme.

English LL HL - 6 hours
Math AA SL - 2 hours
History HL - 4+ hours
Business HL - 1 hour
Spanish SL - 1-2 hours
ESS SL - 2+ hours
Arabic - 1 hour
Islamic - Less than 1 hour
TOK - 1-2 hours
- This is solely my unfinished 'classwork' and homework.

There's no way we can do this for another 3 months.

Make the lessons an hour long as they should be.

Give us substantial work where we can still have time to breath. I think this aspect has improved in week 2 at least.

Don't stress your students out by telling us our EE deadlines have changed without giving us the full context. What's happening to Mocks....

1. The one thing that I am enjoying about e-learning is that I'm able to work more efficiently as I am less distracted by my peers and am able to focus on my work better.
2.Although I normally do consider myself a hardworking and capable person of managing my time well, I am struggling to stay on schedule with the classes and often miss registering as well as the planned meetings as I am too deep in trying to finish other work. I often struggle to complete the in-class work as our classes (videos) are sometimes longer than 30 mins which requires us to spend 1 hour on the videos, and then the additional work requires another 1+/-. This, then piles up, as many of my classes take longer than 1 hour to complete, and leave me completely off schedule and off track. This is very overwhelming as I either have to leave work behind to keep up with my other classes, or find other time to complete my work after "school" hours.
3. The staff/school could reduce the workload as it would make it easier for the students to keep up with the work, stay on track, follow the schedules, and reduce students missing classes and then falling behind. I know that this would be challenging for the teachers as there is a certain amount of work that has to get done every class, however planning the classes differently, or setting out different work and notes that require less time would be very beneficial in keeping the students on track, and reduce the stress, and overwhelming workload we are receiving.
4. For chemistry HL I spent around 3 hours just on notes, and 6 hours on the worksheets per week that we are receiving. Although the subject is very demanding, I find this an overwhelming amount of work, and too many hours sitting in front of the computer. I often struggle with English SL as well as the course is demanding and requires a lot of hard work, however I often struggle to do my best as I am stuck doing other work instead of completing what I have at hand. Furthermore, the demands of EE and CAS are rising, and completing those, and working on those is another struggle that comes with the overload of work.
5. Finally, I don't have any questions but I would like to say that although I understand that the teachers are trying their best, due to the current situation, and are struggling to manage their classes as much as we are struggling to complete our work. Reducing our workload would be beneficial to our wellbeing.

It’s nice to work at your own pace and I feel more productive. I’m sure that most teachers are doing their best and I have appreciate that some take our lives into consideration. But in chemistry the workload is insane and the guidance given is inadequate. I think that teachers should consider that it takes longer to grasp concepts when we have to self-study and having to do homework on top of learning content becomes overwhelming. It actually defeats the purpose of homework because I just do it for the sake of finishing it rather than completely understanding what I am doing. If we are going to get as much homework we should at least get more time to do it. Are we expected to do 4 hours of homework for one subject in just 2 days? Because I feel that’s quite unreasonable. And I don’t understand the purpose of doing homework if we are not going to go over or get an answer key for it.

It would be helpful to know more about what’s happening with mocks and how assessments are going to be done online but I understand that it will take some time to figure out.

I'd like to say first of all that I understand how hard this has also been on the teachers, having to completely remodel their lessons and readjust themselves to the timings as well.
I do however have found the workload slightly unreasonable. I hate to complain and usually suck it up and do the work, but on top of the stress of a completely new system and being locked in at home, there is little room to breathe.
Chemistry lesson videos, while pausing to understand and taking notes has taken approximately between 1-2 hours to watch (when a video is 45min long). Worksheets that can culminate to 5 pages long are given after each class, and when we confronted the teacher about adjusting this amount (we were also given a practice IA and the date for a test next week) we were told to "deal with it" -- I understand this, but our workload during class was literally half of what's going on now.
In terms of English and History I think the teachers have been listening to our suggestions and tried to find a balance between what suits us and them.
However, I can confidently say that my workload has tripled-- I work nonstop from 8 am until AT LEAST 6-7 pm every single day. I think teachers know just as well as us that E-learning has given us anything but more free time. I have found it hard to find time to take a breather, watch a show and even interact with my family, something that was completely manageable during school time, when ECPs were still going on.
I have had no time to work on EE and CAS either as lesson work literally eats up ALL of my time.

Math AA SL - 4-5 hours/week (the workload is really manageable for math, I'm just slow)
English LL HL - 4 hours per major task, so like at least 7 a week
French HL - 1 hour
Chemistry HL - probably around 6-7 hours a week (excluding actual class time)
History HL - 4 hours / week
Biology - 1-2 hours --this is my most manageable class right now.

The major question I have is whether assessments during E-learning will have the same weight as tests we did before--will we still be able to show improvement in our grades during this term?

I honestly don't mind the workload because we were all complaining about how bored we are to stay at home all the time. However, I don't see the point in doing all this work when it does not benefit me in any way. Ever since e-learning started, I feel like, no matter how much effort I put into school, I find it very difficult to keep up with lessons. I don't understand many things and I feel bad for bombarding the teachers with so many questions because I understand it is a very overwhelming time for everyone. I have very high expectations for myself, and I was working towards achieving them but now I can see everything just falling apart. The only thing e-learning has done is affect my mental health more. I dont like complaining but I hate this so much. I'm not blaming the teachers though, I appreciate their effort and thank you for helping us get through this difficult time.

I hope there is a more effective way of keeping us on track and LEARN things instead of stressing us out and waste all this time...thank you.

Also, I just wanna point out that some teachers actually spend their time trying to answer our questions by either calling us or making a video that CLEARLY explains the solution to the question...if other teachers could do the same it would be very very useful.

Most of my CAS is also school based events, so I cant write reflections because events were cancelled...they shouldn't expect us to have CAS completed because how am I supposed to do that? I wanted all of my CAS activities to be meaningful, which they were but I cant create random CAS activities from home now because everything was planned and I dont want my CAS to change.

1. What's working for you?
-teachers checking in to see how we are doing with the work
-teachers being available on teams
- teachers calling to teach (biology, french, art)
2. What's not/challenging?
- the workload
-lack of clarity with some deadlines (EE,CAS)
3. What can the staff/school do to better support you?
- lower the workload, especially because it is harder to learn at home by myself, and teachers seem to not take that into account and are progressing really fast.
4.Roughly, how many hours per week are you spending on each subject?
HL: 3-5
SL: 5-7
Here is where my issue is: I have substantially more work in my SL subjects than in my HL subjects. I learn better and faster in my HL subjects, and I end up having less homework from them because I learn better. My Sl subjects are either harder for me (math) or just labor intensive ( English). I spend so many hours trying to learn math concepts and do questions on my own. Additionally, we are starting to have assessments this week with a biology, for which we got barely a weeks notice. This topic is hard to learn from home although the teacher has done a great job at calling with us to teach us. I am not feeling confident for this test because I have not learned the content properly or as well as I would have in normal school. Additionally, the uncertainty with EE deadlines and progress and also CAS adds more stress. I appreciate the flexibility some teachers have given with homework tasks (not making them due at the end of the lesson) but some continue to make deadlines for the day of the lesson at night which is stressful because there are other deadlines that were announced before. I know that everyone is trying their best to adapt to this situation and teachers are also learning as we go, but I have been super stressed and had barely any free time. My pace with learning has decreased and I am not grasping topics like I used to, for some classes I end up not learning but just rushing to complete worksheets (business). I know the topics in the short term but two days later I have already forgotten because I did not learn them properly. I find it really weird how my workload has doubled in e-learning while teachers are saying we have more time now or 'I'm giving more work because I have heard you guys are bored at home". All this extra work does is demotivate me, stress me out and make me uneager to put effort and work. If this continues in the long term I am more concerned for my wellbeing than my progress in learning.

1. What's working for you?

It is easy to switch between tasks and there is a lot less time wasted on things like getting home and changing, which normally takes an hour before I can really start working. Finishing earlier also helps a lot, because I have way more time in the evenings to both work and try to relax.

2. What's not/challenging?

I'm always worried of missing something because there aren't very clear dropboxes or specific guidelines of what's expected. I also feel like teachers are making our periods too dense; most of the work is seriously excessive for an hour-long period.

3. What can the staff/school do to better support you?

Ask us before you make big decisions like moving up the EE deadline up by a few months, or at least be steadfast in your decisions. I know, no matter what, it’s a very uncertain time, but I feel like the stress I’m feeling towards things like EE is seriously way too much and unnecessary.

Roughly how many hours per week are you spending on each subject?

Generally I spend an hour for every period I have, so for my HLs I’m doing 6 hours (including class time), and 4 hours for my SLs. The thing is that a lot of the glassworks spills into my homework time, so they’re hard to separate.

General comments

Sometimes I do understand that we are in DP and the workload, regardless of our situation, will be intense. I still feel like teachers have jumped the gun and already started giving us loads of assessments in big waves like they did before. I even feel like they're giving us more work than we used to receive before the break.

I also think that not having time between classes is really awful, not even a minute. I spend the last five minutes or so of a class thinking about getting ready for my next, and most teachers expect us to be ready and working on 10 AM on the dot, for example. It’s really unrealistic and difficult to keep up with, and it makes me cut corners when I’m finishing up a class.

I feel terrible about EE right now, because my interaction with my supervisor is completely limited and considerably less useful. Because my schoolwork is eating up so much of my time, I’ve barely given it any thought and seeing the April 16 deadline on Managebac is doing very little to help.

I think week 2 has been considerably worse than week 1. I feel like teachers have been trying to take in our feedback, but have also been trying to do what they normally do after breaks, which just does not work when we're nowhere near adjusted to this way of learning. why do I already have like three assignments next week

Also math HL is moving way too fast calm down lol I barely have any time to do the exercises or even understand the topics during the period itself and at this point it’s so demoralizing that I don’t even want to do practice outside of ‘class’

I understand that this is a hard time for teachers and that they're trying their best to help us get through this school year during this whole mess, but it's really hard on us too. I spend my entire day in my room trying to finish work from all my different classes. I know that maybe the workload seems like much because this is content we would do at school with the extra homework, but teachers are moving through the content so fast for no reason, because normally we would've gone much slower.
I agree that it's good to go through things at your own pace. But with that being said, when you go through a million things at your own pace you end up actually going really slow and falling behind. Then you also have homework which is usually a lot and that ends up taking you even more time. I have not slept at a reasonable time the whole week except for the weekend because I spend all my time on work.
I just hope that teachers would slow down a little with the content itself as well as the work assigned because it's just overwhelming.

Teachers have been really good with communication in terms of lesson objectives, and structuring out our lessons. However, when it comes to tests and assessments, it's a completely different story. Usually, I would get 2-3 weeks notice beforehand, sometimes even more, about an upcoming test which made it really helpful, because I could pre-plan and structure my time really well. But now, I have a Biology test on Tuesday, which I got LESS than a weeks notice for. I'm currently stressing while studying for it, and I just find this absurd, because teachers REALLY need to stop bombarding us with super early test dates, especially when we aren't used to this. Also, some teachers don't even tell us when certain assessments are summatives???? I had a Spanish quiz the other, which my entire class FAILED but we thought it was an activity, and he only told us after we did it that it was a summative. My Spanish grade is already bad, please I don't need these sort of things to bring it even more down.

We should just have the work given to us so that we can gradually work towards finishing everything for the day. Too many times have I found myself being 15 minutes late to a class because I was working on the work from the class before (English). We shouldn't need live sessions but instead the classwork provided and if we have any questions, refer back to the team forum. I want to be able to work on whatever I'm doing for more than an hour without going into my break time.

Bless

1. The thing that has been working well for me, is that for most of my classes I get to speak with my teachers through video call and ask questions, which they can explain in detail. Also that teachers have been flexible with deadlines considering that the lessons are an hour long and sometimes we can't get all the work done during each lesson.
2. For me it's challenging to get all my class work done and then do my homework. No matter how focus I am or how well I manage my time, I always sleep late.
3. Since the beginning of last week, teachers have taken the feedback from week 1 and done their best to make e-learning as good as possible. So, I think from their end they should continue doing that. I know that this is just as hard for the school's staff as it is for us as students and I can't ask for any more than that.
4. I would say that I spend roughly about 1-2 hrs minimum per task, but sometimes 2-3 hrs.
5. Given that we are doing e-learning until June, does this mean that we'll have to do tests/assessments under time conditions? If yes, how will this work?
When we come back to school, are we going to have mocks?

I have a problem with the way the work is spread across the week. Teachers from different classes are placing deadlines on the same day with different times, or in some cases at the same time, which is not fair at all. Teachers need to communicate with ONE ANOTHER as well to understand their timetables and their agendas TOGETHER to find a medium on how the work should be sectioned throughout the weeks of e-learning because at this point this sort of routine of multiple things be due in one day is exhausting.

Next, the communication between students and teachers, has been good, some better than others. They will explain the lesson objectives and check in if we need help. However, in some classes, I feel I'm rushing to get things done as some teachers ask for the work by the end of the lesson rather than the end of the day. Which is stressful as it causes mediocre work and stress for completion for no reason. Teachers should note that days have shortened, therefore, lessons have shortened. You cannot expect me to complete 5 different tasks in one short lesson and have it be of quality, it not fair for the students.

I'm getting a lot of work done during school hours and after school hours. This being said, I feel like at times teachers are forgetting that everyone is still trying to figure it out with timings and amounts of work so sometimes there is an excessive amount of work. As students we appreciate the efforts they are making but they must be conscious of us too. I enjoy the fact that for math and other subjects, we are getting assigned electronic assignments that count for around 10% of our final grade. I believe this is a very good way to slowly start boosting our grades and finding good ways to test out knowledge.

The workload for English is abmysall. The English department seem to think that just beucase we are at home it's fine to give double the usual amount of work. In addition to that I feel like I am neglecting other subjucts just so I can manage to get all my English deadlines due in on time. The work and tasks assigned in the 1 hour task would take around 90 minutes, and so after watching the half an hour loom video with only thirty minutes left of "class time" we have an extra hour of work in addition to the heavy homework we get every lesson. Its just not feasible to expect students to keep up this charade as the quality of work will soon drop drastically.

In addition to this overwhelming workload the school has decided to make the EE due in June. Which not only adds to our stress and workload but is near impossible consdering the time and feedback students of the past needed and got in comparison to our situations. There has been absolutely no clarity on why this happened and nor has there been any communication regarding mocks, which as you probably know, are very crucial for us as we use those grades to apply to colleges.

I feel completely behind and lost in all of my subjects and despite my best efforts, I do not understand most of the content I am learning. Most of my teachers also never do calls and simply post work for us so it’s hard to ask questions to clarify concerns. Besides not understanding anything, we are also getting bombarded with work and assignments and tests. Stting in front of a screen for the 5-6 hrs of the school day is already enough to give us a headache and fatigue and this homework means we have to spend more time looking at a device. I just feel overall that some teachers have not been there for us yet have ridiculously high expectations and both my academic performance and mental health are getting destroyed in the process. I understand this is a difficult time for teachers and staff as well but I hope that our feedback can lead to some changes being made.

I've felt way more tired and also the strain on my eyes from all this screen time is concerning.

For the amount of class time we have and the workload we are given, it is definitely not proportionate to how it was before. If not it has become slightly more which may not seem to be a lot but the fact that sometimes I work into my break and lunch without realising means that it has increased. So if teachers could better support us is so we had a more spread out workload instead of trying to cover new content every single class.

Math HL: 6 - 8 hours
Economics HL: 2 - 4 hours
Physics HL: 6 - 8 hours
Chemistry SL: 6 - 8 hours
English SL: 6 - 8 hours
Spanish Ab initio: 1 - 2 hours

E learning has been okay for the most part the only thing that i am finding very difficult is that all classes have assigned assignments and essays to write i feel that with this it should consider that homework should be cut. Essays and other papers take around 3-4 hours to write per class which is well over expected homework time. I feel that if i class decides to ask for an essay they should keep in mind that students will do the paper to the best of their abilities and with this it take very long to optimize the paper. In short if i class assigns an essay or other forms of large projects homework should not be expected no matter if we are in school or not it doesn't change how graded work is done. Even if homework isn't completely cut it should at least be reduced by 50% across the board. This take into consideration that typical lessons don't fit into the 1 hour time and this causes all lessons to be continued even after school has finished for the day. In the end e learning has been a good way of being able to attain the knowledge of our subjects through the lessons but with the homework it seems to be not helping with anything instead it acts as a way to stress out people even further.
Math SL AA - 2-3 hours
Lang Lit SL -3 hours
HL Econ - 2 hours
Chem HL - 4-5 hours
Bio HL - 2-3 hours
Spanish Ab initio - 1-2 hours
- What is the plan for Predicted grades ?

1. What is and isn't working for you?
Loom videos are usually very productive as replacements for class time - however this becomes troubling when homework and extra individual work is added on top of these videos - it's hard enough having to pause the videos to take notes sometimes - the workload piles up very quickly - and I doubt this is because of self management issues, as this seems to be a very common complaint. During live lessons, less is accomplished, but it helps a lot to have teacher feedback directly and not have to wait for an answer through email or teams. This also provides a do-able amount of classwork as the teacher is able to set it during the lesson.
Something that has been extremely stressful for myself and others is the suddenly announced new EE deadlines - this has caused me considerable personal and academic issues, as I am not able to focus as much on the EE due to the workload. Personally, I believe that moving these deadlines forward was an extremely poor decision and this grade will suffer greatly from not being allowed the same amount of time to complete the essay, but also on such short notice.

2. What can the staff/school do to better support you?
During this time, I believe the best kind of support that the teachers could manage would be a mix of both loom videos and live video calls, as this allows us to keep on track, but also work at our own pace (1 live call a week, 1-2 loom videos). Additionally, a cut in our workload should be permitted, especially because we should be focusing on our EE - this would relieve a lot of stress for us.

3.Roughly, how many hours per week are you spending on each subject?
English HL: 6-7
Theatre HL: 3-4
Math HL: 5-6
Biology HL: 3-4
Spanish Ab Initio: 2-3
Geography SL: 4-5
(This includes classwork and homework)

1. I'm really enjoying e-learning because I am able to get a lot more work done as well as work at my own pace especially in the case of having 60 minute lessons as I believe that I have been a lot more productive during those 60 minute lessons than I was in the 80 minute lessons.

2. What's challenging is that the workload that is being given by some teachers is ridiculous, especially in Mr. Michaels SL Lang and Lit class and Mr. Qusay's Arabic SL class. For English we are given too much work throughout the whole week, where I believe that the amount of work that is given is based on quantity rather than quality because in most classes I am unable to produce the work to the best of my ability just to be able to hand the work in on time. Furthermore, I spend more time on my English SL homework than most of my HL subjects due to having to submit long homework's four times a week when in reality only have two classes per week not four. As for Arabic, the content that is given in the lesson for homework is too much to be able to be handed in on time, as last week we were given a task to complete by the end of the lesson, even after having a 15 minute live chat with Mr. Qusay as a class where he just went through the same information again and wasted a quarter of our lesson and still expected the work to be completed by the end of the lesson. The work that was given to us was reading a two page article, then writing a 500 word essay about the article, then recoding a 10 minute video about what we read, and editing the video and submitting it before the end of the lesson, when in reality I spent 20 minutes reading the article, then only completing 150 words in the rest of the 25 minutes left in class, therefore, having to continue to work on this 'simple' task till 9:30pm just to be able to complete the work. Therefore, Arabic SL's workload must be reduced to ensure that we are capable of submitting the work on time to the best of our ability, while, for English SL Lang and Lit, the workload is far too much as we get homework four times a week (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday) every week and it is mainly focused on quantity and not quality, where we should be only having hoemwork twice a week (on the days that we have class and no other days). Please fix this.

Also, for EE, the deadlines must be changed to the original deadlines or somewhere very close to the original deadlines, as this is too condensed and will be very hard to be able to complete this within just a few months, while having all of the other work from the other 6 IB subjects that must be completed, when in reality we should have till later on in grade 12 to hand in the our EE. Please fix this too.

3. The way that the staff can help support me is by giving a fair amount of work to me each week by communicating with my other teachers and seeing what work I already have due, or if no task is shown on Manegebac, then to contact the students as some teachers don't post the homework on Managebac and still expect it to be completed.

4. Arabic SL: 3-4.5 hours per week
English SL Lang and Lit: 5.5-7 hours per week
Math AA SL: 2-3 hours per week

Computer Science HL: 2-4 hours per week
Physics 2.5-3 hours per week
Business: 2-3 hours per week

5. Will we have mocks at the end of the this academic school year or will we just have them at the start of grade 12 next year?

E-learning is definitely a new way of learning and students and teachers are still trying to adjust to it. The new way of learning is somewhat better and I am being more productive at home than I thought I would be. For improvements I would have to say that the amount of class time to the amount of work we receive is uneven. Our lesson period was shortened so teachers have less time to teach us these concepts and then we have more work than we did when we went to school (applies to some classes). I feel like we are getting piled up with work by every single teacher but from the first week it's starting to improve.

Im just really confused and properly worried about how CAS, EE and mocks will contribute to our grades and how this impacts our college admission process.

However, E learning was not as bad as I thought, however deadlines regarding EE, CAS and mocks are unclear which is causing unneeded stress at this time. In regards to workload, I find the workload slightly excessive as instead of using time to consolidate learning on the classes, I am using it to rush over and complete any leftover homework from the lessons.

I feel that neglecting homework and really allowing us to review and consolidate our learning on our own is far more effective than the completion of another individual task which adds more stress but less of a benefit.

Also, CAS is another area for concern as there are very little opportunities that can be done (which probably have been already done now) due to the circumstances.

And the EE deadline is also funny because we have not even discussed anything regrading an EE outline or how to form it, and solely relying on our supervisors to help us is not an option as most of us don't want an E.

1. What is and isn't working for you?
I think that the workload for some subjects can definitely be overwhelming, as some teachers try to maintain the same pace as in class, they forget that work is 2x more time consuming than in a regular class. Loom videos, although helpful, aren't as helpful as a live class. I think some teachers are able to understand and are able to do a live class explaining the work ive, while recording the presentation on Teams, which can be immensely helpful as students are able to clarify their doubts while the class is continuing, which can be a problem while just watching a Loom video, if I get stuck in between, I have to wait for the teacher respond, and once they have clarified my doubt I'm way too behind where I'm supposed to be.

2.

1. What's working for you?

The best thing about working from home is all the extra time I now have that would otherwise have been spent simply sitting on the school bus (about 2hr25mins in total from 6:20 AM to 7:25 AM and 3:00 PM to 4:20 PM). I also like being able to eat, go to the bathroom, or take a quick break whenever I want. Recently I’ve found that listening to music together with friends helps me stay focused on my work. Lastly being able to message teachers privately about any questions I have has been extremely helpful and I've always received immediate replies.

2. What's not/challenging?

The main challenge for me is by far the sheer workload. I think a lot of the problem is actually my fault as I’m starting to get distracted online again which has always been a struggle for me. I was getting better at keeping myself focused until e-learning started, and now I’m starting to fall back into my old habits of distracting myself when faced with a huge workload. I’ve tried making a to-do list which has helped a tiny amount but doesn’t really do anything about the size of the workload itself. Since class periods are now shorter I’m almost never (not an exaggeration) able to finish the classwork during the lesson, which just leaves me with an assorted pile of small bits and pieces from each subject which quickly adds up over time. In addition, most of my subjects give me a huge amount of additional work on top of this, which ends up taking up the majority of my day. I’ve been very stressed recently as I’m unable to find time to even reply to my friends’ messages daily and it’s becoming increasingly hard to maintain friendships, especially when we don’t see each other everyday anymore. I’m also really struggling to find time to exercise and get enough sleep, or explore hobbies/extracurricular activities.

3. What can the staff/school do to better support you?

This isn’t targeted at all my teachers, but making more loom or youtube videos as opposed to live class lectures would help a lot because it would allow me to watch at up to 2x speed and be more efficient with my time. I understand that the work we get is ultimately to help us gain knowledge and prepare for our final IB exams, but it definitely feels like the workload suddenly drastically increased as soon as e-learning started. Without going into subject-specific feedback, it would help a lot if it’s somehow possible to spread the work out over a longer period of time for all my subjects (except Spanish and Economics which I think are going fine at the moment). This doesn’t apply to all subjects but it would also be helpful if teachers could always clarify how much weight each task carries in determining our final predicted grade. Lastly some direct guidance on the EE outline would be helpful as we haven’t received much so far and it’s due in less than two weeks. I know the deadline has always been on Managebac but I thought we would receive some more help beforehand so this came as a shock to me and I feel very unprepared for it.

4.Roughly, how many hours per week are you spending on each subject?

I think I can definitely work on my study habits to cut these times down, but these are just estimates of how long I’ve spent since e-learning started. I’ll actually time myself this week since I’m also curious.

TOK: 30 min / week outside of class

CAS: 1 hr / week outside of class

EE: 1+ hr/ week outside of class

English Lang Lit SL: 6+ hr / week outside of class

Spanish ab initio: 45 min / week outside of class

Economics SL: 45 min / week outside of class

Chemistry HL: 3+ hr / week outside of class

Physics HL: 2+ hr / week outside of class

Math AA HL: 6+ hr / week outside of class

Islamic: 10 min / week outside of class

I don’t really mind the math work as it isn’t compulsory, I can see actual growth from doing the practice, and perhaps most importantly I enjoy it. However English Lang Lit SL has always been my biggest workload since the beginning of Grade 11 and along with all my other subjects it’s really starting to take a toll now.

5. Do you have any e-learning questions?

Nothing that hasn’t been asked by other people already

1. What's working for you?

I enjoy being able to take more breaks since we’re working at home, and I feel like this helps to relieve stress and keep me from getting overwhelmed with the workload. I usually find that having calls during class, whether to explain a lesson or simply chat with the teacher and check how we’re doing, is really beneficial and makes the class more engaging and enjoyable. This way, not only does the teacher ensure we are comfortable and help us resolve any concerns, but we are also able to ask any questions we might have. Teachers are also usually available and easily approachable for any concerns we might have on Teams, which helps a lot. I have also noticed that e-learning has allowed me to spend more time with my family, which is nice.

2. What's not/challenging?

I will echo what most of my peers have pointed out: the workload can get quite difficult to manage. Teachers need to keep in mind that classes are shorter than usual—one hour is not a long period of time. Therefore, it is important for them to reasonably consider what can realistically be completed in that period of time. This is because it is often difficult to complete the assigned ‘classwork’ during the allocated time, which piles up with the ‘homework’ to become slightly overwhelming. Additionally, although I am aware that this is a confusing time for everyone, the lack of certainty regarding several aspects can prove to be stressful. The EE deadline has been brought forward by two months out of the blue and we have not been given a valid explanation of why, and how we are supposed to complete a full draft by then. If anything, we should be given more time since many students have had to make changes to their EE due to the circumstances. With the deadline for the outline coming up in two weeks, we haven’t been provided with much support or explanation of what is expected on it.

3. What can the staff/school do to better support you?

Schedule calls regularly with the class, even short ones, at least to check up on us if not to have a lesson. Though this might sound strange, hearing a teacher’s voice can actually be comforting and provide a sense of normalcy in these difficult times, simulating a classroom experience. It would also be nice to have the previously mentioned aspects clarified such as EE and provide us with regular updates.

4.Roughly, how many hours per week are you spending on each subject?

HL Math - 7-8 hours

HL Physics - 3-4 hours

HL Econ - 5-6 hours

SL Chemistry - 2-3 hours

SL Arabic - 1-2 hours

SL English - 6-7 hours

5. We have shorter lessons so I have to use my time later to finish any homework or classwork that I couldn’t complete in class.

1. What's working for you?

Time after lunch is useful to talk to teachers privately. Some teachers are doing live lessons or talk with students to find better ways to communicate and give lessons.

2. What's not/challenging?

There are still so much works to do. I feel like we have more works to do than last week.

There isn’t enough information about IA….it is hard for me to figure everything out by myself such as the format and criteria.

3. What can the staff/school do to better support you?

It will be good if teachers upload the task two weeks before. They upload a week ago and there are so many assessments on managebac. One week gives me the minimum time to study for assessments and IA. The loom video needs to be shorter than 30 minutes. In class, there is time that we spend to ask questions and do sample questions on the board.

4.Roughly, how many hours per week are you spending on each subject?

Chem = 5 hours a day

Maths = 2-3 hours a day

English = 2 hours a day

Econ = 2 Hours a day

Physics = 2 Hours a day.

This is just the average but sometimes I can’t study any subjects except chem and English. The workload is not as same as what we did in school. I am spending most of my day doing chemistry and English.

5. Do you have any e-learning questions?

Does IB/school normally do IA in this period?

Why is one HL/SL class doing an IA and another class doesn’t?

Is it possible for teachers to do the IA experiment and upload the video on managebac because the video from youtube is not very helpful.

Thank you

1. What's working for you?
Teachers that are engaging and don't assign ridiculous loads of work. The teachers that give detailed videos explaining the task so we aren't lost. Massive shout out to you all (English HL and Math SL Mr Clem). Teachers that set reasonable deadline and that are there to support us when we reach out.
2. What's not/challenging?
Loom videos are fine but I would like live classes and teachers that spend time talking to the students and asking for their feedback instead of blindly assigning things on Managebac. To be completely honest, I have never before resented school or my teachers but this is testing me. I cannot keep up with everything that is being assigned and I the stress is surrounding. The social aspect is tough of course but we're all on the same boat. However, when it comes to academics I feel like I'm drowning. I don't know how my classmates are able to enjoy e-learning it seems incomprehensible. I feel like as this keeps going I will end up failing my classes. Which sounds dramatic I know but I think it is heading there, I am still working an assignments from a week ago and being in a full house with over 7 people 24/7 isn't helping. In Business HL the work isn't necessarily hard but it takes so much more time searching through a textbook then it does just having the teacher explain. I feel like I am spending hours to complete just one worksheet because I am struggling to find all the answers and it takes three times as long as it would in class please understand that. I am confused about everything being assigned in French initio- I feel like our teacher hasn't properly told us what to do this entire e-learning period and there is very little communication and very little structure in that class. I feel like ESS is moving way to fast and I am comprehending very little of the unit that we're speeding through.
3. What can the staff/school do to better support you?
Have teachers individually ask their class for feedback with a form or Padlet. Have teachers schedule calls. Can there be an EE presentation or some word on how that's supposed to be done. Preferably in the format of the career day video or a Loom video. Because I think everyone is confused and we need some sort of announcement or explanation on the outline that's due.
4.Roughly, how many hours per week are you spending on each subject?
I need to sort out my time management and fro some to
(outside of class)
ToK- 30 minutes
English HL -4 hours
Business HL - 3 hours
Theater - 1 hour
ESS- 6 hours
Math SL -2 hours
French - 30 minutes
Islamic- 10 minutes

5. Do you have any e-learning questions?
I understand teachers are trying their best and want to keep expectations high but please be lenient. Homeschooling isn't for everyone and no one signed up to do this.
