         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. In the first test tube nothing occurred.<br>2. In the second test tube there was a reaction. <br>3. In the third test tube a reaction occurred. We added the wooden split, and nothing occurred. <br>4. In the fourth test tube, a reaction occurred. We also discovered that the substance that is given off after the reaction is oxygen, because when we add a glowing splint the substances catches fire. <br>5. In the fifth test tube, a reaction did not occur, probably because the temperature was too high, causing the enzyme to denature. <br> </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>1) What are enzymes?  What are their roles in chemical reactions?<br></strong>An enzyme is a substance produced by a living organism that acts as a catalyst to create a specific biochemical reaction. Enzymes main task is to increase the rate of effectiveness in chemical reactions within cells. </div><div><strong>2) Describe what happened to test tube 2 when hydrogen peroxide was added to the liver.  What gas was produced?  What liquid was left behind?<br></strong>There was a reaction, causing oxygen to be produced. We know the substance was oxygen because it caught fire when we added the glowing splint. Water was the substance left behind because peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen. </div><div><strong>3) What effect does the red hot wood have on test tube 4? WHY is the flame being produced? <br></strong>The red hot wood allowed us to find that the substance given off during the reaction was oxygen. The flame is being produced because pure oxygen is flammable. <strong><br>4) What effect does temperature have on the enzymes (Test tube 5)?<br></strong>Increased temperature causes enzymes to denature, or not work. This is evident in test tube 5 because the boiling water and liver caused the enzymes to not work. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I conclude that my hypothesis is correct, meaning that the liver will break down peroxide into water and oxygen. In addition I learned that a reaction will not occur if the temperature is too high, due to the denature of the enzymes. </div>]]></description>
