I think you need the know the student's current skill level before you can say how much time will be needed.

You would need to know where he is on his reading skills, if he has accommodations, and if he might have dyslexia.

What is the student's personality? How do they currently handle difficulty situations, do you avoid contact, argue with others or are they constantly fidgeting with things? How can we change current behavior to meet some goals based on their needs.

Set some goals of what they want to reach and see where they are now and take the steps needed.

Be beside them and help them with words to get the conversation going with those they are talking with then listen to the response and have them repeat it back to you so they comprehend what was said.
