Trade allowed for more people to gain knowledge and give them resources to help further their knowledge. The usage of this knowledge helped them further their scientific discoveries.

It was a continuation of a revolution in thought. As the empire expanded, people thought of new ways to manage the increase of people in the community. It further led to new inventions and rapidly increasing culture. This also helped more people think more critically to help benefit their communities and family. There were more discussions and arguments that decided leadership and was beneficial for the functionality of the country.

China was a main source of resources as they were able to grow and harvest resources. They had things like silk but other things like spices that were natively grown that other big countries did not have access for. The reason they traded was to be able to get money and be able to grow the economy and be able to buy things. The use of trade also helped grow generational wealth and personal wealth as then people could start selling their resources. The geography kind of helped as they are very near some of the bigger countries and Asia and were able to have multiple connections with the countries and become a trustworthy source of resources that countries would be able to trade with many times.

The Islamic Empire had many new innovations. The resources that they needed came from many different places. They had trades done all throughout Europe, Northern Africa and Asia. Some of things they got were resources like textiles and silks. These resources helped new innovations be created and helped start new industries that helped further society and help the empire grow economically. While being in Europe they had close access to many countries around them and could transport things and deliver things by water which helped them trade with other countries if they ran into them while crossing the water.

Europe traded for the resources they needed. They were able to do these trades as they were already gaining resources from other places. The ability of them getting things like silk helped them use it to benefit themselves but then be able to trade the resources to other places. As Europe has lots of access to water, they have the ability and opportunity to be able to travel to other places and trade more frequently rather then having to travel far distances to be able to trade goods.

Ms. Waller: How did silk help create a revolution in thought in Europe? The key argument for Europe is that it was located close to the Middle East and therefore traded goods and ideas there. A lot of Europe's innovations came from ideas created in the Islamic Empire.

There were many different categories and types of innovations. They varied from ship building to the ability to print words on a paper for the first time. They were all involved in social, political, intellectual, cultural and economical. These all built off of each other and were connected to help society advance as a whole. Some of these innovations were created by people who had to take an intellectual test to prove they were able to think and act effectively.

The Heliocentric theory was big because it was one of the first ideas that was finally passed by the Church. The Church did not like new things and especially from people who weren’t involved in the Church. The categories of innovations were a wide variety from aeronautical stuff to little things in the world. They also used many of the things they had to create like roads and bridges. It also led to things like the scientific revolution which had many things that were discovered, created and eventually used but at the time they were not approved as they went against the religious side of the argument.

This connects to the Islamic Empire Sustaining as they both go against what was the normal at the time. Ideas were definitely challenged and the authority at the time did not agree with it but eventually when proven decided to go along with the new ideas and believe them.

The Song Dynasty was also a continuation of the Revolution of Thought. While looking at the (comparative timeline), it is clear that many important innovations were made shortly after the founding of the Song Dynasty, such as the paper currency. During this period, people were in a revolution, thinking in a new way, expanding culture, economy and administration which caused many changes in society. The change in leadership had a big say on how the country was run and what resources they were allowed to use verus not allowed to use.

It was a continuation and sustained due to the constant new ideas and inventions that were happening. There were many things like the telescope and the heliocentric theory that completely went against the religious part of the world that everything created was by God and this was how he created it. People definitely tried to overthrow governments and cause a change in leadership. For example, like the government in France which was overthrown.

Ms. Waller: Same thing here, I'm not sure how the reformation video supports these arguments. The French Revolution was a political revolution and not discussed in Unit 3. The key authority in Europe in the middle ages was the Church so this box should have only focused on the Church.
