Helgas life took a drastic turn when the Nazi invasion came through Europe. As a young Jewish girl, she witnessed the many different horrors of the Halocaust.

Helga was just 12 years old when she began to write about her experiences in her diary. Through her words we gain the understanding of what Helga felt while facing unimaginable experiences she lived through. Some being the forced deportation of her family to the Terezin ghetto and later to the death camp, Aushwitz.

Despite the awful conditions Helga's artistic talents were shown in her diary. She sketched all of her different surroundings, capturing the faces of different faces and struggles with her other prisoners. These drawing and her diary enteries serve as evidence to the awful thinsg they endured.

After the war Helga continued to use art as a way to express herself. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and became a great artist. Her art is a contribution to a reminder of the resilience that can come after the darkness.
