One way that this topic changed society was the fact that once again women were highly involved. During this time women became more modern and a lot of that was due to alcohol. Women evolved during this period. They wanted change so they changed how they drank, what they wore, and what they did at the workplace. Another thing that changed, is the amount of illegal things, with this law people tended to think that it did not apply to them so they went against it. The influence of drinking has gone back for quite some time and the effects are still here today. During that time period they hoped that not drinking would change everything. Today drinking is affecting a lot of people in many of the same ways. Alcoholism is a problem that 76 million people are dealing with. So while the prohibition is not going on right now, alcohol is still affecting a lot of people. 

The Eighteenth Amendment was something that prevented selling or transport of alcohol was illegal. This happened during the years of 1920 to 1933. This was a big deal during this time because many people were wanting alcohol to be illegal and when it finally happened they thought that this would change everything. They thought that it would change the family, town, religion. They had hope that this would change everything. Before this happened there was a temperance movement this was a movement against the consumption of alcohol. Many states were participating in this movement and then the amendment got passed. Religion played a big role in this because people wanted God and the family to come before drinking. Women once again choose this fight. They wanted to be heard so there were speeches and marches throughout the country. The amendment passing changed how people felt. Within fifteen years this amendment was gone.

In this picture we see people toasting to the end of the 18th amendment. This meant that they did not have to buy illegal alcohol if they wanted it anymore because the law was now gone. The attitude changed and now many of the women are enjoying drinking again.  I think this is neat because this brought people together for something that they most people wanted.  This showed how women were changing into these women that were not afraid of a little change. This shows the signs for current day America where people will go out for a drink after work. Now this is just a normal thing. 

This shows how happy people were about the ratification of this amendment. This comes off as a bit ironic to me because majority of the American people wanted this amendment to happen and then when it does they throw a fit.  They thought this was going to fix majority of their problems so when it did not fix all of the problems that they wanted to fix they wanted to get rid of it. Many women thought that this was going to fix their marriages, but they did not get that.  Once this amendment was passed this turned regular citizens into criminals.  So this was a big deal that the last state agreed to ratify this because that took care of the two-thirds of states that had to agree.

This website connects the issue to today because this is something many people and families deal with world wide. This affects how people are raised and how they will live in the future. This is a big problem in America and around the globe because when people lose their jobs because of this and cannot support themselves or their family because they are addicted to alcohol.

This website provided a well documented overview of the prohibition. One thing that I enjoyed about this website is it explained how this came about. During this time religion was popular and many women did not like people getting drunk so they set out for a change. Other information that I found interesting was that this was mostly called the Volstead Act instead of the Prohibition Act. Once the eighteenth amendment came into play, people who sold alcohol were called bootleggers. Another way that people went about illegally getting hold of alcohol was participating in speak easy. Overall this website is a very strong website to use to find a lot of different information on not only the eighteenth amendment but the twenty-first as well.

This website provided information about the temperance movement and what this had to do with the eighteenth amendment. The temperance movement called for moderation with alcohol however people were not very sold on the idea. So the Anti-Saloon came along and helped speed the process along. Even with the amendment people were still drinking because this law was not very well enforced. One thing that is interesting about this amendment is that it is the only amendment to have been ratified and repealed. The site was very helpful in explaining different terms and was very clean and organized. I would use this site again.

One thing that I really enjoyed about this website that the others did not have is it had part of the amendment in the reading, so as you were reading this came across easier to understand. This goes onto say that some states had already banned the sale of alcohol in their state. This site provided some good information but, I would most likely not use it for any research because it is kind of a bland website. This website provides minimal information on the topic but when it does provide it is in a very basic way. So at the end of the day I would most likely not use this website again.
