Unsustainable use of natural resources
Urbanization, consumption, and human activities in general require more of the Earth than it can offer. A few years ago the demand for natural resources surpassed the limits that nature can withstand, with a global ecological footprint (human demand in the year) superior to the global biocapacity (amount of resources that the planet is capable of producing in the year).

There is a depletion of natural resources, which are consumed at a speed greater than that required for their recovery. According to the Global Footing Network, to sustain mankind's consumption patterns, it would require 1.7 Earth. If we maintain this rate of consumption, we will need two Lands before 2050. This ecological pressure brings various environmental imbalances, such as deforestation, soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere and scarcity of fresh water.

Although water is a renewable natural resource, its use in an unsustainable way, coupled with climate change, has brought problems of availability to various regions. Water, besides being necessary for human consumption, is essential for food production, for water supply, sanitation, for energy generation and as an input to industrial processes. It is therefore necessary that this resource be better managed so as to be preserved and distributed fairly to citizens.

Climate change, extinction of species, urbanization and environment, excessive use of natural resources. Without a doubt, we have many challenges to overcome. It is important that we have a date like Environment Day to contemplate human activities, putting them in perspective. How can we contribute to building a viable planet for future generations? We leave this question to you, reader.
