How were people punished for their crimes during the era of Elizabethan England?

During the era of Elizabethan England, people would be punished in a variety of ways for minor and major punishments. One crime was do that was considered treasonous was doubting Queen Elizabeth's power. "The penalty was death by hanging. But first, torture, to discover any fellow-plotters" (Picard). The torture was excruciatingly painful, for it included tearing one's limbs apart.
For more minor crimes like incest, the punishment was less harsh and more embarrassing than painful. "Many offences were punished by the pillory – the criminal stood with his head and his hands through holes in a wooden plank" (Picard). The public would gather round and shame the offender by throwing objects (sometimes stones) at him. There is a possibility that the criminal could die, but it's all up to what the citizens think

How does the court operate against the accused and how were they punished (regardless of the verdict)?

During the Elizabethan England era, the courts operated in an unfair way. Once someone gets convicted of a moderate to serious crime, then they are unlikely to be set free, even if he/she was truly innocent. This shows that the court is biased toward the prosecution and makes the justice system rigged. “The Elizabethan court is definitely not a place..to be if you were being accused of a crime...especially...being accused of a harsh crime such as treason.” (Elizabethan England Life)
Regardless of being innocent or guilty, the accused would most likely be tortured with things like racking in order to extract confessions from the "criminals" "“They would frequently use methods such as racking to get confessions out of people." (Elizabethan England Life) This further expresses the difference between our current government and the Elizibethan government.
