This meant that Islam had finally crossed the Mediterranean and crossed into Europe. They took Spain by force and it was ruled in 5 periods and was a mixing pot of multiple regions. This allowed Muslim traders to trade with the rest of Europe and get there culture spread through out Europe. Evidence of this is still present in the peninsula today.

During this time, Christians started the first Crusade in hope of taking Jerusalem from the Islam. Before the first Crusade, Muslims reinforced the wall around the city. Luckily, the soldiers attacking had little food and water. The Christian soldiers attacked the north walls. The Muslims were winning the battle, until ships with aid to the Christian soldiers came, and the Muslims were soon defeated. In the end, the Christians were able to take Jerusalem. 

Even though the Muslims lost the Crusade, there was still some good. To start off, Jewish people in Jerusalem were allowed to stay. This allowed for Jewish people to learn about Islam which would either spread Islam to other people, or may even convince them to become a Muslim. The Muslims passed the Islam tradition though all of West Africa. As a result of this, this helped spread the Islam culture across Africa. Mauritania and other parts of West Africa. They campaigned against the Soninke kings of Ghana.

This means that they went around to people, and spread their religion and ideas. They used many tactics, such as rallying and pitching. However, they were not very peaceful, and they often killed people. Many people consider them the first Jihad, who are muslim extremists, who often are very violent. They often kill people to get their way. This meant that Islam had even more control over the whole of the Mediterranean sea and the Arabian peninsula. They also had access to major resources and this allowed for more trade. The Ghana Empire weakened.

The Almoravid's ruled throughout many places, and spread Islam throughout all of them. They did this by force most of the time, being compared to Jihad. The Ghana empire weakened because of drought, civil wars, and more trade routes going away from Ghana and going elsewhere, weakening their economy.
