He was the fist independent ruler of India. During his time, the sultanate faced repeated Mongol invasions from the North-West.
 He was succeeded by Illtutmish who was the son-in-law of Qutbuddin Aibak, sold off as a slave by his brother. He was a strong ruler who greatly expanded the boundaries of the empire and capably put down the Mongol attacks led by Changez khan.
Razia Sultana was the most capable heir of Illtutmish who set up a peaceful and prosperous rule if it were not for the 40 nobles who oppoesed her due to her being a woman.

The Mamluk or Slave dynasty was started by Qutbuddin Aibak, Mamluk is an Arabic word that means Slave, this was named Slave, because Qutbuddin Aibak was sold of as a slave by his brothers when he was little, later on he became a general. Qutbuddin Aibak built 2 mosques, the Quwwat Ul Islam mosques and Qutb Minar. Qutbuddin Aibak let the Hindus live freely. He died in an accident while playing polo in Lahore.

Qutbuddin aibak was the first one who started the rule in the sultunate of Delhi and being a slave he made the slave dynasty as his first dynasty he ruled very well but then he could not last his rule much longer unfortunately he died and  other rulers started coming and ruling slave dynasty similarly then they made 5 dynasty's

It was founded by Jalal ud din feroze khilji and became the second dynasty to rule the delhi sultanate. He completed the unfinished palaces and gardens. He is considered one of the greatest of Sultans in Delhi. Within Sultanate's capital city of Delhi, during Alauddin Khalji's reign, at least half of the population were slaves working as servants, concubines and guards for the Muslim nobles, amirs, court officials and commanders.
