I teach 2nd grade, so it can get challenging at times to focus on certain parts of the text. One way that I do it is that I let the students choose a crayon of any color. Then, we read the questions and search for clue words. We underline the clue words or phrases within the question to narrow down our search. Then we read the answer choices (if their are any), and mark off ones that do not make sense. From there, we review the story again. I have the students first search for it on their own. Then they have to tell me what paragraph they found their information, and prove it to me that it is correct.
