I feel like I have always picked up on aspects of social justice but did no completely understand what I was seeing/hearing/experiencing. I grew up in Richmond Virginia where so many communities of drastically socioeconomic status all so close together. Even as a child passing from one area to another I always wondered why things varied so much. It wasn’t until I got older and learned from different cultural expressions (art, music, literature) that I started to learn why things differed for different groups and how this made people feel. My undergrad experience helped put oppressive systems into context w/ social injustices.
