At first families would hire tutors. Confucius was a tutor as well. In the Shang Dynasty schools we're called xiang, but in the time period of zhou school was called Xu. There was East Xu and West Xu. East Xu was only for the noblest of families, while West Xu was like elementary school

The schools were also separated by State and Village schools. State schools we're only intended for noble and entitled elementries and higher-leveled colleges. Village schools had only four levels and students continued their education when they passed a level.

 At the start, Only older boys went to school but the boys had to have a rich family. If not, boys would stay home and learn numbers and manners. when boys grew up they would learn about government, religion, and war. They would be taught by a master, and have special dances, besides learning about the future they also learned reading, writing, and math like us.
