What has stood out?

The biggest thing that has stood out to me over the past 10 weeks is how important it is to incorporate technology into the everyday classroom. One of the reasons I wanted to be apart of the instructional technology major because I knew I saw something in using technology within the classroom. After exploring various videos, articles and other materials in this course I have seen that technology is more than just adding something to the classroom, it can completely transform the way a child learns. Not only can technology be a great experience, but it can help students learn at their own level in the best way for them individually.

What have I transferred into the classroom?

The biggest change I have made is the programs I have used to differentiate within my classroom. This course has opened my eyes to so many programs that are out there. Using edshelf alone has allowed me to search for programs not just for this course but within my classroom as well. I have a wide range of learners in my class this year and differentiation can feel like a really big task to tackle. Using various online resources has made it a much more seamless process and allowed my students to be more successful.

How has my perspective changed?

The biggest shift I have had in mindset is the motivation behind me using technology in my classroom. I had more of an "it is so much more fun with the students to use technology" attitude which is still true. My motivation to use it now, is more centered around the genuine benefits it can bring to students. It can be extremely helpful not only in differentiation, but also in allowing students to have experiences that make connections to further their learning. They can see more of the world and do more with the material they are learning. Technology also allows them to show what they have learned in more forms than just your standard test. My perspective has made not a complete 360 change, but has shifted in a way that I notice just how important technology can be.
