WWF is an organization that supports the creation and development of cities ecologically. Davao City was qualified in the 2022 year campaign due to its outsized goal for emission reductions, targeting a 75% reduction by 2030 from a 2017 baseline. 

As Davao is prospering, so is the city waste increasing. Thus, as a response to the city's waste crisis, the local government of Davao City plans to construct a P2.5 billion waste-to-energy (WTE) facility, funded by a Japanese loan, on a 10-hectare property in Biao Escuela in the Tugbok District.

Associations in Davao City united and cooperated with one another to reduce plastic waste pollution in the community. With this, they recycled these materials and turned them into eco-friendly equipment such as wallets and bags. Also, they took the initiative on other ways to manage waste in the city properly. 

Air pollution is the most serious environmental threat to public health worldwide, causing an estimated 7 million premature deaths each year. Because all major pollutants have an impact on the climate and most have common sources with greenhouse gases, air pollution and climate change are inextricably linked. In 2019, 99% of the world's population lived in areas where the WHO's strictest air quality guidelines for 2021 were not met.

One of the champions in IGaCoS is the City Environment and Natural Resources Office who has been actively implementing solid waste management in the city. WWF-Philippines is currently helping manage their Materials Recovery Center through Cloop—a social enterprise advocating for recycling plastics and turning them into high-value products.

A key component of the partnership project called ‘Clean Ports, Clean Oceans: Improving Port Waste Management in the Philippines’ is the conduct of a Solid Waste Management Baseline Study in Philippine Ports which found that about 114,927 kg of plastic waste is generated from ports and 128,970 kg of plastic wastes from vessels. 

Solid waste management is a perennial problem in the Philippines and this can be due to a lack of information dissemination on proper waste disposal. This study assessed and compared the solid waste management practices of three technical and vocational colleges in Mati City, Davao Oriental.

This study seeks to comprehensively understand biodegradable plastics production and applications research, product prospects, sustainability, sourcing and ecological imprint. It uses the triple bottom line to analyse the sustainability of the plastics. The research findings provide a new avenue for further research and contribution to the area.
