Having these skills are especially important in human service because they help people give better care to patients. To provide fair and inclusive healthcare/human services, it is important to understand and value different backgrounds and points of view. Without looking at other point of views, you bring in your own bias that could affect someone else's livelihood. (Hayat Maow)

Medical systems cannot be analyzed hollistically with statistics and from afar. The personal challanges and wrap around issues that comes with sickness need to be addressed with a policy that takes in account all aspects. I learned that global health can be brought down to a personal perspective to improve healthcare for all. (Martin Gong)

By considering others backgrounds, beliefs, and habits, I can do my best to treat people in a way that respects and values that, and integrate biomedical treatment as needed, and offer support beyond that to help tie together culture and medicine in the best way possible.

One skill I hope to bring with me as a public health practitioner is collaboration. I hope to work with the community of interest and gain insight into any disparities or inequities that they may be burdened with. Following this, I will work with them to create policies that address these problems, hoping to address the disparities these communities may face. I believe it is crucial to allow autonomy, support, empathy, and reason when working with community members and to provide the most effective and equitable decisions when it comes to population health. Instead of assuming you know the whole story of a place based on your inevitably biased perspective, it is important to take the time to learn about the community you are helping.

I think one of the most important skills I would apply when navigating health systems is the role of financial incentives and how they drive behavior. While healthcare systems should theoretically only seek to provide care, other motives such as wealth makes the healthcare industry more muddied in their goals and actions. In order to truly understand health I need to understand the role of money in healthcare systems and how to make systems more equitable without compromising resources(Sangwoo Park)

As an aspiring medical professional, one analytical skill I imagine bringing with me to the job when navigating the medical system is having open communication. Namely, it is critical to ensure that your patients, fellow professionals, and families of patients are well aware of any ideas, concerns, and other information that are relevant. In addition, open communication can foster stronger relationships within the medical system, which is important so individuals feel included and trust you as a healthcare professional. This includes listening to the needs and desires of your patients as well, which will allow you to provide the best care possible. (Leya Dereje)

As healthcare professionals, we need to learn this technical skill of effective communication to make sure that our patients are fully aware of how we came to a certain diagnosis and why we chose the intervention we did. At the same time, we need to make sure that we understand what our patients are communicating to us, what their biggest concerns are, and how we can tailor our approaches to their needs.

(Aida Chan)

In addition, this skill helps create a safer and more empathetic and caring environment for the patients themselves. (Isabelle Saguilla)
