They should because as they grow older they become more susceptible to illness and as a result become less proficient at performing their jobs. Changing views should also be considered because as stated, "scholars note, presidents have dug deep to select nominees whose firm convictions aren’t likely to shift over time." This could be a plus for the time period, but as time changes and society starts wavering they need to change to fit the current time period.
