Question #1.
How do developmental scientists study people? What are some advantages and disadvantages of each research method?
- Developmental scientists study people through the use of the scientific method. They identify the problem, observe related variables, and collect data needed to reach a conclusion about what is being addressed. They follow a 5 step method:
1. researching the topic.
2. create a hypothesis.
3. test the hypothesis.
4. make a conclusion based on the data.
5. make the results available to others.(this step allows for checks and balances.)
- Major elements of the social sciences are shared in the scientific method, it is more commonly used. It allows for a statement produced through a logical and systematic way.
-Random selection can ensure to result in a generalization.
Question #2.
What ethical problems may arise in research with humans?
- risk of harm
- issues regarding consent
- anonymity
- avoiding deception
- providing the right to withdraw
